I can't tell if /b/ is here or if /diy/ has actually become this retarded.

Stop it.

Jesus, we do around 2-3 for pretty much everything. Playgrounds, road signs, fences.

My laundry line poles are 18 inches down, and I do pull-ups on them. If you felt it start moving, you stop. I don't see how (even at the worst) there could be any catastrophic effects off this.

Be doing community service for the department?

It's quite easy, we just hired two new employees (used to be just me)

Neither are mechanically inclined, one has no work experience, etc etc. Doesn't take a whole lot.

Work for parks and rec for my local gov.

Might be switching over to IT for the paycheck increase, but I really don't want to deal with how stupid our IT Department is.

Well the best of luck to you. I understand the pinch of good hardware being expensive, so you try to save where you can. If using your PC, make sure your sound card can do what you're trying to (just because it says 'line in' doesn't mean you can't fry it, learned that one) and software is *mostly* free if you are so inclined.

My only experience is music production, so the portastudio is worth it's weight in gold. But if you are just recording a voice, I'm sure you can find the right hardware for you PC on the cheap.

Name a state without some type of natural disaster...

Up north has snow and mudslides. Coasts have hurricanes and tidal waves. Most people don't like the deserts of north Texas, AZ, an NM. Faultlines lie across the country.

As for that, I wish I could help. I burned up my input on my PC not knowing what I was doing, now I use my (IMHO vastly superior) Tascam Portastudio, which allows me to record, mix, and dub on the same machine.
Wish I could help there.
What are you recording (pure curiosity, doubt I can give you any real input)

Decent hardware for it (both the amp and the "in" you're using to record) good pop filter, good software, extremely good shockmount, for the easy stuff.

After that comes that come soundproofing and such. My main issue is when the AC unit turns on/off, plays hell with my recordings because I don't record in my ghetto studio, but in my room with my PC, guitar, and mixer.

tl;dr
Shockmount + real pop filter for starters

Right, people should never drink, smoke, or do things that can hurt them, because bad things can happen if you do things stupidly.

Right, don't listen to the guy that tells him he should continue to ensure his mental stability by not overdoing it, and asking him to make sure he retains his drive to do things.

Last thing before I turn in for the night.

The voices in your head? (Not the way the media portrays them to be, but the ones who whisper "I should...." or "i'd like to") are a good thing. From my experience, if you feel those voices are falling off, you have gone too far, stop while you're ahead.
I've just started rebuilding my identity back from an empty shell. It's hard on many levels.

It's hard to remain sane with no way to define right and wrong, love and hate. These are the things we'd like to push past in trips, but that's folly. We need to understand them as advice, not admonish them as methods of control we like to think.

When the voices disappear, insanity rules.

My current girlfriend (and the most important female in my life, other than my sister) is having issues with this. I don't feel love the same way, I cannot reciprocate feelings.

Tripping is good, but keep a strong handle on your impulse to do it. Over indulgence leads you down a bad road.

Sorry for the father/son, mentor/protégé stuff here, but I doubt anyone else on /diy/ would offer decent advice.
