I feel like Canadian canned fish is cheaper in the USA than in the once great white north. Dollar tree has Canadian canned hearing filets for $1.25. the packaging says 70 grams drained has 14 grams of protein.

They still seem a little expensive.

I can get these at Aldi for £0.49 - which equates to CAN$0.84 and I get 125g not just 100g ?

At least you have real sardines, not brisling . . .Don't you?

>typically buy Bela lightly smoked deenz in EVOO
>store is out of Bela
>decide to try the Matiz lightly smoked in Spanish olive oil
>pretty good
>next time at store decide to try the lemon version
>don't bother looking at the ingredients because both the other versions on the shelf are in olive oil, why would they use something else for the lemon flavor?
>get home, look at packaging
>sunflower oil
I feel betrayed.

You buy any other food at Dollarama?

I'm in Ottawa, Ontario btw

Oof, did you end up eating them or did they go to the back of the cupboard in the “emergency” section?

>> No.20004769

>>20004731
Back of the cupboard along with some Sumaco sardines in tomato sauce from Thailand that contains soybean oil, and some fried eel in chili sauce that also contains soybean oil. A friend gave them to me to try, and I'm not autistic enough to refuse because of 1% soybean oil by weight. Also just not big on canned seafood caught/canned in Asia. The one exception is Crown Prince oysters from South Korea since they are decent quality, and significantly cheaper than any US options. Also the only canned oysters I can find from the US are canned in sunflower oil.

Brislings are not real Sardines dickwad.
Sprats are good too but they are NOT sardines.

>> No.20006404

>>20006133
Sardine is a general term for small fish in the herring family. Getting mad about calling sprats sardines is like getting mad if someone calls generic facial tissue paper "kleenex."

They are pretty good, and taste better than they look. I personally prefer skinless/boneless as some others can taste a lil too fishy. Just a good savory meaty taste.

They last a while as well and tend to be cheap. King Oscars spanish style are delicious

I thought it was a meme for a while and tried them on a whim. I don't like all styles, but Mediterranean with some chewy bread and hot sauce is actually great. The bones can be a hurdle for some people, but it's purely a mental obstacle. They're more like cartilage anyway.

My pantry always has a couple of cans now, for a snack or a light lunch. You can also eat them with rice or a warmed tortilla. Try them out.
