You guys should try coastal Indian seafood. Most of it can be found in South Indian restaurants as that is where the majority of the coastline is.

If you are a fan of spicy food and sea food, then this is ideal. Pic related is masala pomfret from the southwestern coast of India.

Will be posting more pics of this type of indian cuisine.

Hard to notice because of the sloppa-nature of indian food, but these are clams from the southwestern Konkani coast of India.

This is probably my favorite version of clams in the world actually. The tomato onion curry is infused with coconut milk

Now we move away from the West/Southwestern coast to the very bottom tip of Southeastern India. It's my actual favorite type of indian seafood: Chennai seafood from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Here is a typical village style seafood platter with crab, prawn, clams, and some cuts of mutton.

Cajun seasoning uses cayenne and paprika for most of the heat spice (and black pepper)
South Indian seasoning uses chili powder and thai chili (and black pepper) for most of the spice

Cajun also uses thyme and oregano usually, while indian spices use garlic/ginger/cumin/coriander/hing for the other elements of spice profile

Then you need to stop hanging around north indians who have very one-dimensional view of meat to eat and live in central landlocked states. The south indian coastlines offer a huge variety of seafoods

Insanely good-looking stuff. Too bad all southern Indian restaurants specialize in only veg.
So why do the coasties eat seafood? Or is it just a carry over from the Euro colonial days?

>Too bad all southern Indian restaurants specialize in only veg.
Because the market / demand for south indian food is only accustomed to breakfast south indian veg foods like dosa, idli, sambar.
>So why do the coasties eat seafood? Or is it just a carry over from the Euro colonial days?

Isn't this self-explanatory? Coasties eat seafood because...they are on the coast.
This absolutely is not a carryover from colonial days, this is simply south indian culture.

People have this misconception that Indians are predominantly vegetarian. Absolute nonsense. Do you seriously think most indian villages in india are vegetarian? no, they slaughter mutton and catch fish. Coasties in india, particularly in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Goa, etc all love seafood. Indians are far more meat-eating than you think, only the "upper-caste" ones try to avoid meat like little bitches.

A taste of true india isn't veg food, but the non-veg that villagers eat in coastal areas. Hindus are far more meat-eating than people like to think. And yes im butthurt about this misconception. Come to Chennai and see how many food stalls on the street that your standard blue/white collar workers eat on a daily basis. It's all juicy meat

I'd also suggest you guys to try out Indian food from other parts of India, north Indian food is generally just Punjabi/Delhi food lumped together in a single category.
Would especially recommend west Indian food from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra. Maharashtra is extremely good with meat and is really underrated imo. The meat curries from vidarbha area are among the best dishes I ever had.
