Me in particular? Good question, since I'm not a huge fan of MUG.
For others? Plenty of people around here who regularly drink soda buy one or two 12-packs of canned soda when they go grocery shopping, with the expectation of it lasting until they need to go shopping again.

Out of the most popular American brands (A&W, Barq's, Dad's, and MUG), MUG stands out for being the sweetest and having the weakest/smoothest sassafras flavoring. It IMHO has the simplest taste of them all, almost tasting like a cream soda as much as a root beer.
For those who don't have experience with root beer, I would say the MUG compares to Barq's as a root beer in the same way that Pepsi compares to Coke as a cola. A&W and Dad's have a bit stronger sassafras and a bit more complex flavoring apart from the sweet notes, so I wouldn't say they are necessarily better or worse than MUG.
Some people have a preference towards the root beer being foamy or not, and MUG is second-least foamy next to Barq's. As far as root beer floats go, I think MUG is the worst on account of it already being sweet and lacking in kick.

If you like a smooth and sweet soda over the sassafras, there's a good chance you'll prefer MUG. If you like root beer in particular, you'll probably prefer another variety.
