SUBMISSIONS END IN 3 HOURS
VOTING BEGINS ONCE SUBMISSIONS END AND WILL GO UNTIL FRIDAY, APRIL 19TH AT MIDNIGHT CEST

Welcome to the 2019 /ck/ Challenge!

The theme for each round is announced on the 1st Monday after the previous round's end with 2 weeks for submissions. After that the voting/rating thread goes up for 3 days and everyone is welcome to vote on the submitted dishes.

Submit your dish with a timestamped picture of your creation (ideally with an available step-by-step process via an imgur gallery post or a photoshopped/GIMPed picture) with a unique totem visible in the picture (any type of object be it a dice, glassware, cloth that you'll show with your submissions for the rounds). If you would not like to submit scores then you are free to give feedback/criticism on the challengers dishes as you see fit (just don't fucking clog up the thread with autism please).

The voting will follow modified Iron Chef rules, a 20 point scale where 5 points each will go towards Presentation (how the dish looks on the plate, i.e. the plating), Originality, Appeal (how appetizing the dish looks to you) and fulfilling the Challenge Goals.

You may use this template in order to score the competitors submissions:

Presentation: /5
Originality: /5
Appeal: /5
Challenge Goals: /5
Total: /20

The theme for Round 2 is SANDWICH!

So far the following anons have made me a sandwich:

Tiki Doomer
Moose
Sakeanon
FPM
Quaff
Nikon
Ribbon
nrrwmndd
Doraemon
Bell

If I have missed anyone who submitted a dish in the past threads with a proper timestamp please let me know. Otherwise, any new submissions have 3 more hours to submit and I will take late submissions if given notice before the midnight deadline. Other then that, to all the submitters best of luck when voting comes around.

ALLEZ CUISINE!

Ok got it!

Alright and with that ROUND 2 IS CONCLUDED!

Thanks to everyone who submitted a dish this round, regardless of quality. Sandwich may seem like an easy theme but to master a sandwich it takes only the finest of chefs to show how the bread melds together with the ingredients to make a truly signature idea. However, that is not for me to judge only for you!

So let's get on with the voting! Let's present this round's dishes! (I won't be doing Iron Chef descriptions this round but will do them once the elimination rounds begin and the lower entries are weeded out.)

I'm not trying to give low scores to be a dick, it's just how I score.
Constructive criticism: the vericals are nice but you may want to consider adding a picture of the completed entry on it's own. And try to make it look nice. Let me pick on The Frigid Bitch (no offence, just using it as an example). A little lower angle on the camera, with natural lighting, a toothpick with a pimento stuffed olive (or something more original) stuck into the top of the sandwich, pushing the sandwich forward on the plate and adding chips/crisps or potato salad or some other side on the back of the plate. Any 2 of those suggestions would have pushed the “Presentation” score from 3 to 4-5. I do appreciate the pickle chips. FPM and bell were the only other contestants who put something on the plate besides the main dish.
And I know it's been done this way for years, but a category for “Effort” would have raised a lot of the “Total”s for these scores. I guess it might bleed into “Challenge Goals” once the challenges become more challenging. Just trying to say that the people who made their own bread would have scored higher totals.

The gloss on the bun looks really nice!
A slaw with cabbage, radish, and cilantro on top of the pork would have been a great addition and would balanced out the heat (assumption) of the pork and added some color.

Moose here (french sourdough baguette). Thanks for your score and criticism. Regarding what appears to be a hair, I did notice that but only all too late. I actually don't believe it's a hair, since I have very long black hair and I live alone (cat aside, but its definitely not its hair either). I think it's more likely a strand of fabric from the couche the baguettes proofed on, or something along those lines. Makes no difference though, I should have noticed it anyway.

Admittedly yes but I try to provide reasoning and try to be objective so I don’t favor certain people over others. Last round I think I gave out low scores as well. If anyone cares this is roughly how I go about scoring:
I tend to normalize the presentation scores since most people can plate something halfway decent, with entries putting extra effort into including appealing colors, garnishes, clean cuts, etc. getting more points than something simply put together and put onto a plate.
Originality points aren’t standardized and I give points kinda based on surprise factor. Something adhering to an interesting idea helps here like bell’s coffee cake pitched as a sandwich or nikon’s rice flour crepe.
Appeal points are just how appetizing a dish is and I try not to dock points for things I personally dislike (like rye bread and olives) but try to look for a variety of complimenting tastes and textures. Mix of fresh and cooked; sweet, sour, savory; soft, chewy, crunchy. I know I’d get tired of eating something without some kind of variety. But I think I do end up giving extra points for odd things I do like (slimy textures; offal; fishy things; anything that sounds odd and tasty)
Theme points are based off whatever the chairman explicitly states; “inherent flavor and liveliness of rice” or “presentable and unique sandwich”
I’m open to changing my approach if others would share their approach

i kinda get it tho; even if the ranking remains unchanged by the same grader, since they're averaged, the low scores i gave out puts contestants in this round at a disadvantage compared to the previous round. If i normalize the scores and give everyone 2 free points in the creativity area, it would better match my scores from the previous round without affecting the ranking this round.

Not sure if it would have effected the previous round but the possibility is certainly there and could easily be exploited by a butthurt anon. Lets say someone is getting high scores and a certain anon is pissed that entry is doin well, he can score it ultra low to try and hurt them. Alternatly someone could be double viting anonymously and scoring their own entry extra high to give themselves a point bump. Alright fine I'll make a new thread and announce it tonight.
Pic related is the hint (also no the theme is not soda or "Dr. Pepper").

I think the "blog" part of catblog is what annoys people especially since it's formatted like a template thread and given a lot of people's hate for generals it makes sense.
Also a lot of the posts now from catblogger aren't even about recipes but just a mix of off-topic discussion and people shitposting.

No, but maybe that'd be a fun theme for the elimination rounds.

Help keep the thread bumped if it's posted early. The thing falls off the board in a day if there's no active shitposting about sandwich technicalities.

That would be a pretty interesting round. But maybe instead of just anime make a round all about imitating a food from any movie, tv show or anime.

Fuck anime. I would resign from the competition. It would just be a weeb round.

Anime food could literally be anything so I'm not gonna do something like that, but I would like do maybe do 1 round that's more Asian/Japan oriented as this is a Chinese Silk Weaving Image Board.

3rd round is an ingredient again, but not a specific ingredient like in round 1 as there are many varieties of it.

Thanks to all the anons who made me a muthafukin' sandwich for round 2! For those who didn't, get back in 'da kitchenz!

Anyhow let's get down to the final scores. THE WINNER OF ROUND 2 IS...

BELL WITH AN AVERAGE SCORE OF 16.5! CONGRATULATIONS!

A lot of high-scores this round with most getting above a 13! The runners-up for this round were nrrwmndd, the winner of round 1, with an average score of 15.1667 and Quaff with an average score of 14.8333! Well done to both of you!

And with this round at a close, the first updates for the open rounds contest winner clear out with nrrwmndd in 1st place with a 15.375 average followed close behind by Quaff with a 15.02 average and Sakeanon with a 14.43!

Well done to everyone in this round, especially Tiki Doomer who had a 6 point gain from round 1! We now move into round 3, the last of the open rounds! I will be making a new thread in a few hours once this thread dies off to announce the theme!
