First time going to a new place just down the road. The prices were worryingly cheap, but I thought if it's OK then a local place would be useful. I ordered duck with plum sauce and egg fried rice, with spring rolls on the side.

The spring rolls tasted weird, like they were fried on bad oil. The sauce that came with them looked like some sort of sweet chilli sauce but just tasted of vinegar. The duck had been cut into strips, battered and deep fried. Tough, no flavour, and it seemed like all the duck fat had melted out into whatever they fried it in. The plum sauce I'm pretty sure was just syrup and food colouring. The egg fried rice was the least offensive part of the meal, presumably because it's so hard to fuck up.

1/10, possibly the worst meal I've ever had, including 3 days of peanut butter on dry bread when I was broke.

If you have some time walk along Canal Street and go down Mott. Look for places that are frequented by Chinese folk, those will be the best places. If it's with white people or niggers, those will be tourist traps.

If going to the places downtown then go early on say an early Saturday or Sunday morning, for the dimsum carts. The chicks bring out different stuff to select from and they mark this bingo card looking ticket for billing.

I had great hot pot at little sheep. I had delicious takoyaki and dumplings in the food court under J-Mart. There’s a place called Jade with excellent dim sum.

I’m not shy to say the names. Fight me on those opinions and I’ll only be better for it. But the question is good chinese in new york which is vague as fuck. But the chinatown areas have high concentrations of really good food.

On the other hand I can’t say, reccomend the whole 15th street area for Pizza. There’s three pizza places and only one is good (it’s The Sicilian, fuck off Joe’s fags).

I had a chinese takeaway store right under my apartment at the time, the food was like crack, man my mouth is watering thinking about it.
Went there one day to find the ownership had changed. FOod was all as good as ever though.
I watched this fuckin lady though put my food in a container, some of it was spilling out so she pushed it back in with her fingers which were dirty and rimmed in black gunk. FUcking foul, I paid for my food and threw it away. Becauuse I am a pussy. Never went back.

I used to live in Saraland, AL and there was this local place we would eat all the time. I got teriyaki on a stick that looked like rat, ate it anyway, got food poisoning and shit for a week straight, almost had a prolapse. Years later, 5+, friend wants to go to China Chef, explain to him how sick I got on it. Try it anyway, hell maybe it wasn't their fault. Eat there happily for 2-3 years. Sister sends me a phone video of people on Facebook who eat there and show maggots crawling in their brocolli and sesame chicken, more people pile in with maggots, the place doesn't shut down and is still going.

China Chef in Saraland, AL. First they got busted for like 20,000 hits of ecstasy then they let maggots get in the food.

I found a packing staple once in a chicken wonton soup. I almost drank it down, luckily I was looking at the soup so noticed it. The chicken wonton soup is pretty clear, if it had been something like hot & sour soup I might not have noticed.

The other nasty thing is when I get some fried shrimp or something for pickup and they put it in these stupid ass styroform boxes which melt into the food. That's nasty. I know when I do a pickup to tell them to use different packaging. It's really thoughtless to put fried stuff right into some styrofoam or whatever it is and it melts into the food.

I worked as a dish washer at a local Chinese place for a few years. The owners, an old Chinese couple that live above the restaurant, vehemently hated one another. The husband was the head chef. The old ship captain, now cook, spoke little to no English and constantly smoked Daviddoff cigarettes while he sifted his woks on the rare occasion that a customer actually showed up. He was also a gambler and connoisseur of pornography (his wife once found a stack of playboys and made me throw them out). His wife, a large woman who spoke semi-coherent English, handled minor food prep and helped with orders.

It was an authentic experience, I suppose, seeing as the kitchen had its own layer of smog that lingered about at all hours. The ceiling, which at one point was white I imagine, was a dirty tan color that complemented the tar building up in the corners. Food was constantly dropped and then promptly put back on an outgoing plate, along with cooking utensils that if made enough noise upon hitting the grimy floor, sometimes scattered the roaches from their hiding spots.

Cleaning up after these people was a fucking nightmare. Especially when the health inspector was due to arrive.

There's a place very close to the place I work that's been there for 20+ years, and every time I pass it and look inside, there's no more than two tables in use. Depressing and unappealing as fuck.
A coworker offered me leftovers, and it was some kind of hideous brown piece of meat with ugly tendons and textures - like something from eraserhead - on a bed of white rice. I didnt touch the fucking meat but tried the rice and it was ungodly sweet. No sauce whatsoever. I ran to the toilet and spit it out.
Fuck that place, I hope it goes out of business.

Going to college in a small town in Virginia (won't say which), I'd grown up in DC my whole life so I'd sort of been spoiled by some of the best Chinese food in the whole country. It was a shock when I got some beef lo mien from a small town Chinese place.
