Why does /ck/ get so mad about other people's eating habits?

It's extremely frustrating and insulting when you make food for someone else and they refuse to eat it. Or when you want to order food to share and they only tolerate a small subset of foods. Or when people mock gag when youre eating your own food.

Ego traps. They're rampant on every board, not just this one. It's right up there with deliberate trolling and forcing memes as the reason why finding reasonable, quality content on 4chan is a needle in the haystack. Putting it another way, when people have little else to hang their hat on they'll find any little thing to feel superior about. Race, nationality, language, food, TV, music, income... you name it.

that explains an unnerving amount about this board and its posters

The food one eats is one of the most primordial forms of in-group/out-group differentiation there is. Except in this degraded commercialized era, people take keto or veganism as in-groups.

Pretty much this. All this tribal garbage on a food board where anons are genuinely interested in variations on food prep from other countries but it deginerates into a shitstorm of sturmdrumpfer nationalistic /pol/tardation.

>People should force themselves to eat just so you won't hurt your feefees
Nice
>when you want to order food to share and they only tolerate a small subset of foods
So stop wanting that and just order some for yourself.

There's a saying that goes something like "You can tell a lot about a man by what makes him angry"

Like it or not how people eat is cultural. It's part of your identity. This is powerful stuff, and it's why religions have dietary laws and within cultures food traditions are so deeply valued. Even in places where there isn't a particularly strong religious or regional food culture what you eat is still a reflection of where you live, your social status, your background and even to some degree your political views. Any individual's food affinities and prejudices tell a lot about them. And on a board like this others can't help but notice and comment on that.
