I'm a krautslav in the midwest dating a mexican. Lots of beef, dairy, and potatoes. Haluski, potato soup and sauerkraut balls at family reunions. Menudo, tacos, or elote with the girl.

When I can cook on my own kind of whatever. Went on a beef stew, stir fry, corned beef hash/reuben bender recently. Finished out the red beans and rice I froze before that. It varies.

I do have a ny strip or a ribeye every sunday. You wouldn't believe the quality and prices out in bumbfuck nowhereville.

Texas reporting in, here's a family dish
I like to make (feeds ~6),
My mother grew up on farms, and come fall when the weather drops the squash harvest comes in too. So her father would stew ground beef or sausage for a hearty stew.
I made some changes to the dish, and serve it over pasta.
Ingredients:
10 Italian style sausages, sliced/2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, diced
1-2 red bell peppers, diced
1 tbsp minced garlic (not powdered)
4 zucchini, sliced or grated
4 winter squash/yellow squashed, sliced or grated
1 bag of frozen spinach/2 lb fresh cleaned spinach
1 large can of petite diced tomato
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp oregano
1 bay leaf
salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste

Instructions:
1: Brown the sausages/beef in a large stockpot
2: Add onions, garlic, and bell peppers, cook until the onions are sweated
3: Add Zucchini and Squash, cook for a few minutes.
4: Add spices, tomatoes, and spinach. Bring liquids to a boil and cover until flavors develop, stirring occasionally (20 minutes to an hour).
5: Serve hot over fresh pasta, keeps well in fridge for up to a week.

My family ate a lot of roasts and steak and a ton of German food. The rotation of recipes often included stroganoff, rouladen, and pfeffer schnitzel, and hot potato salad. Good stuff.

Italian food that Italians would be horrified by.

This. My family also had a recipe for so-called "Mexican spaghetti." It's just regular spaghetti, but you sub the Italian seasoning for oregano and sage, and add smoked chili powder or taco seasoning. Garnish with tobasco to taste. It was good food, but it was an abomination. Doesn't quite fit thread theme though.
