We doing IT stories?

>get call from one of the old ladies saying how her monitor is broken
>she can hear the computer turn on but she just needs a new monitor because hers is "blown"
>"Is the monitor on??" "It won't turn on." "Is the monitor on though? Manually press the button on the monitor." "I'm not stupid ok? I turned the computer on. I see the lights. The monitor is broken."
>look at other tech coworker and explain the situation and extend index finger
>we both walk to her office, I walk right up to her monitor with still extended index finger and turn on the monitor.
>she gets mad because "she normally only has to press one button to turn everything on".

Another time back in probably 98 or 99 we had to roll out entirely "new" computers for the entire new network environment (moved from citrix to NT) and the new computers had CD rom drives but they didn't actually do anything. Coworker told one of the old ladies jokingly that it was a cup holder since they weren't actually allowed to use them. Fast forward to later that year and I'm in that office again and sure enough one of the ladies is sitting at her desk with the cd tray extended with a crumb covered napkin on it. Randomly checked some of the other drives and one had dried coffee rings in the tray.

Ah IT. Was the best job ever.

My favorite food is legit a can of King Oscars in olive oil, green olives with pimento and water. I used to also put them on sardines with tabasco sauce, sometimes still do to switch it up but now I just think it deludes the experience. I want to try some other brands but can't find any. Every time I'm eating a can with friends around they make such a big deal out of it like they can't possibly fathom the concept of any living being able to even touch the can with a stick. Can I eat sardines with skin and bones right out of the can? Will I choke on the bones or cut my asshole shitting then out.

What about herring? Right out of the can as well?

They are completely 100% edible. They have already been cooked and their bones are very soft and present no hazard whatsoever. Some people don't like them because of personal preference, but they are perfectly safe and in my opinion much better with skin and bones still attached. Kippers (smoked herring fillets) are also fine to eat.

If you're going to eat oysters as a snack, get the smoked ones. Very occasionally they will contain small shell fragments or grains of sand, so watch out for that. But that's very rare.

Yes and yes. Or on a salad. Or an interesting sandwich, you can make a sandwich out of pretty much any food substance.

You could also make spicy rice or season the rice oriental style and put the heated sardines on top. You could lightly char the tomato sauce and fish and do the same thing, and put them inside a ravioli or on top of pretty much any other grain, quinoa comes to mind despite it feeding drug cartels. Use it to make a loaded yam or sweet potato, or any squash honestly. Spaghetti squash pulled with sardine sauce and sardines folded in sounds so awesome I'm going to try it soon.

So I went out and bought a can the other day after seeing this thread and getting convinced. Now the tin is sitting next to me but I'm starting to get kinda nervous about eating them. Should I get a little drunk first? Is there a good beginner way to eat them? I got some in spicy oil. How is the texture? That's the part I think I'm the most nervous about.

just open up that tin of deens and eat em as is. use a fork and let the excess oil drip off first.

I eat the ones in spicy oil as follows: Boil some pasta. while cooked pasta sits in colander saute chopped garlic, parsley and capers in a little olive oil. Add pasta and (mostly)drained sardines with a pinch of salt, black pepper and a squeeze of lemon. Toss and serve.

If you go for the lightly smoked ones in olive oil they're great on brown bread with mustard and a little raw red onion.

Thanks, I think I'll try both. Might put one or two on a mini pizza too. I'm going to starve myself today and have them as a snack later in the night once I'm kinda dickered. I find when I'm wicked hungry It's easy to enjoy new foods. That's how I got into sushi actually.

I guess it depends on your definition of fishy. To me the fattier the fish the fishier it tastes. So fish like cod and flounder wouldn't be very fishy because it's white, flaky and not overtly fatty. Darker fatty fish like herring, mackerel, anchovies and sardines are the ones I do consider fishy because they have a stronger taste. They're also more difficult to find fresh because that high fat content makes them go off more quickly than other fish, which is why most of the time you see them smoked, canned or pickled. To me these fish are fucking delicious, but there's no way I'd claim their taste isn't fishy - they're very fishy tasting, just in a good way.

Canned fish isn't the most exciting stuff to eat in general. But sardines are a cheap, convenient and relatively healthy way to get protein. So many cheap, convenient foods are unhealthy garbage, which makes sardines noteworthy.
