He was awesome when he was the nerdy cooking science guy. He was okay doing commentary on Iron Chef. He just completely fucking sucked once he was on Next Food Network Star. Now he's begging for scraps doing whatever stupid game show that Guy Fierri and Rachel Ray can come up with.

>flat-top commercial grill

Except those are not grills you uneducated mongaloid. What you are referring to is a griddle which is why he made the joke that they should be called griddled cheese.

I truly think he's a hack when it comes to cooking

I've tried many of his recipes and every one of them has been bland and overly complicated. Fucking 2 days for french toast? give me a break

>> No.9789737

He was a real ground breaker, he popularized the "clown around to make cooking seem fun, because cooking on its own definitely isn't fun" approach to cooking. Highly condescending and really off-putting to anyone who actually *does* think cooking is fun, but it spawned a generation of people who are "into food", and thrust an entirely new genre of food-only mass media into the mainstream, and in my opinion can therefore take credit for such things as the gentrification of fast food, and the proliferation of inexpensive high quality cookware, etc etc.

So while I find him obnoxious and his material unhelpful, I can't hate him too much because he's made the world overall a better place.

These.
Allegedly responsible for turning most of the Food Network into hasguns.
His books and show are decent for entry level "here is how to cook something and a bit of the reason behind how all the parts work" which is a good way to teach things as it lets you eventually put all the parts together and improvise.

Are you for real, nigga? Basic recipes almost always require you to taste it and say "Hm, this would taste pretty good with X". Cooking is all about experimentation and figuring out what you like, if you can't figure out how something will taste based on prior experiences with seasonings then you might as well eat prepackaged frozen food for the rest of your life.
