Has anyone here had experience creating a "living Bottle with their scotch? i am about to try it in a couple of weeks. I am lower budget so i was thinking of things like Laphroaig, Glenmoange, and Glen Moray. Is it a bad idea to throw a peat bomb in a living bottle?

I recently topped mine off and started to drink it. I'm not really into peat, so there was really only about 2 oz of really peaty Islay in there, and it was still noticeable, although not overpowering. Honestly just about the right amount of peaty smoke and brine on it for me.

I think you can't really ruin it if you're only adding things to your living bottle that you liked drinking in the first place. It can be fun to sit down and try to pick out the prominent notes from your favorites that went into it while looking for the blending notes as well.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

>sourced from MGP, but it doesn’t have the same bite as Bulleit Rye for instance
People don't really understand what the nature of these distilleries' relationship with MGP is. MGP distills the the rye grain spirit, which is raw unaged alcohol. Most distilleries don't distill rye because rye grain is notoriously sticky and difficult to clean out of the stills, so they buy the rye spirit from MGP and perform the barrelling and ageing process (the part that actually varies the most between each distillery and has the greatest effect on the final outcome) with their own equipment.
High West tastes a little different from Bulleit rye because their respective ageing processes have variations between them. People tend to hear that several ryes originate at MGP and assume they're just bottled at the distillery with a unique label slapped on the bottle.

Stop by your local outlet stores! I got mine at Burkes Outlet for pretty cheap. They're nice crystal glass.

I tried Southern Comfort for the first time last night. I know it's technically not whiskey, but that's what it is in the public eye. It tastes like rotten fruit to me, absolutely heinous.

Bottle of Dalmore 15 arrived today. 30 quid for a 15 year aged, sherry and oak barrel single malt scotch is good in my book. Anyone got any opinion on Dalmore?

Jameson honestly.
But a good runner up is Sexton. A few dollars cheaper but wicked good. Tastes like a plain good Irish whiskey.

Dalmore is shit but 30 quid for the 15 is a steal.
Personally I enjoyed the Cigar Malt and their IBs.

I'm using an old 750 ml bottle I had. Just left the last few ounces in the bottom and kept adding from there. Took me about 2 years to fill it.

>glenlivet nadurra oloroso
Yeah dude. I picked up a bottle pretty soon after trying A'bunadh simply because it's made in a similar fashion, i.e. non-chill filtered, cask strength, oloroso cask. It has a sweet liquorice note which I really enjoy.

Has anyone here ever tried to introduce others to whisky?

I shared some of my Glenmorangie 18 with my then-girlfriend and she downed it like a shot
