it's somewhere around 2,000 F, which is pretty hot. A hot pan in the oven can easily cause tissue damage faster than you can react at only 400 F. If you were a container of free floating water then you could stand to touch lava for a bit since water has such a high heat capacity, but since your water is mostly locked into your microscopic cells and can't make convection currents, if you touch that lava you will suffer tissue damage faster than your pain signals can reflect off of your spine and pull your hand away.
