Currently drinking pic related. Went in for a soda for some pizza, but this looked more interested.

Very smooth. Might be one of the first ones that are aged in barrels where I can actually taste the flavor of what they were aged in.
Would be great with red meat, but pizza will have to do.

Favorite drink of my life still goes to Even More Jesus. Never see it outside of one pub in Wisconsin, and the nearest store with it is 2 hours away, so it'll have to wait until I head that way again.

Yes that's what I said. It has an okay beer scene. Just okay.
I think what killed it for me was that it seemed like a lot of those breweries are stuck in 2010 and haven't really moved on in terms of newer styles or even focusing on traditional styles again.
But this was all just my experience and opinion. I was there for hardly a week.

Minnesota is solid. Craft lagers seem to be popular right now. There are a couple traditional Belgian breweries that are pretty okay, and then there are a lot of Scandinavian based breweries up north using juniper and spruce tips and that shit all the time. Lots of variety and a lot of obscure old world recipes being used. I dig it.

I loved Surly Brewing, especially the food and beer pairings on their Brewers Table restaurant (which I think closed down?). Their location is fantastic too. I only visited during the Winter, but was told it's the place to be during the summer.

There's a brewery in the Midtown building that had this very creative, bright red beer built from several types of wood chips among other things. Need to track that down, have a photo of that somewhere

The Michigan beer scene is amazing right now. So many amazing breweries popping up every year. Only drawback is now we're starting to get shitty breweries popping up hopping on a trend. Eastern Market Brewing is a great example: if a brewery spends more talking about their reclaimed tire doormats than they do their beer, then it's shit.

yes, it's garbage for comparing beers but it gives you an idea wether it's shit or not and what it tastes like.

>> No.9696943

>>9696740
Several reasons, mostly tied to the US fanbase:

-If you live on a different continent you're going to get a lot more of the mass market stuff

-Beer in general isn't shipped as carefully as fine wines, and when the beers tend to be lower alcohol, lower IBU beers that makes matters worse

-Number scales are simply a bad way to evaluate something complex like the enjoyment of a beverage, so X-TREEM styles will always rate more highly than more balanced styles. Same goes in the wine world, when you blind taste 50 wines in a row your palate is going to start favoring the fat, overblown, unwieldy styles that stand out, which is why Angry Bull Lodi Pinot Noir (now with moar mega purple!) is going to outrank Chateau les Milquetoastes from Volnay even though the Volany wine is a more enjoyable wine when your mouth isn't scorched from too much drinking

And finally

-Americans are still overcompensating from post-prohibition emotional trauma and eager to distance themselves from anything balanced or drinkable, due to its alleged similarity to bud light. See for instance the fact that they autistically say "craft beer" instead of just "beer", and "normal beer" means macro adjunct lagers

Pouring beer with a large head allows the carbonation to escape the beer before being drank. Try pouring a beer into a tall glass with no head, then take a spoon and spin it and watch it foam up. If you pour it with no head, the foam stays trapped until something allows it to escape (like the trip to your stomache). Pouring a beer with no head reduces causes the beer to put pressure on your stomache walls, making its drinker feel bloated. A good head on a pint, let it sit until the foam subsides, and then drink. The particians way of enjoying a pint.

Beer poured with no head = carbonation trapped in beer

Carbonation trapped in beer will escape into your stomach, causing it's drinker to feel bloaty and burp a lot

Beer poured with a large head = escaped carbonation

Your beer won't be flat and you won't feel bloated when you drink it

Does the Reddit spacing help you understand?

Head foam and head retention is from the beer's content, mostly proteins. Highly carbonated beer doesnt immediately mean good foam and/or retention. That's because they don't exist anymore. The hipster generation grew up and their values changed. Most of them moved to the burbs and have kids now and have boring corporate jobs and don't use recognizable slang other than talking about "KPIs" and "leveraging core competencies". Their leader joined the Nazis. They drink whatever it is middle aged people drink. Expensive craft beer. Wine. "Artisanal" spirits.
