Chile doesn't even have meat in it originally. The name of the dish literally implies "chili peppers with x". Peppers can be so strong in heat or flavor that they're used in such small amounts that literally anywhere else where 'chile con carne' is not known, any recipe would actually be called 'x with chile'. Papas con chile, huevos con chile, carne enchilada (meat with chili peppers/paste/sauce/whatever). Arguing about the right way of using the chili sauce is just like arguing about which barbecue is the best. It all comes down to regional preferences and whatever is grown or imported there.

Chile con carne. Literally 'chili pepper [sauce]' with meat. 'con' implies having an option along with the sauce.

You could literally ask someone in Spanish to put hot sauce or peppers on something they are offering you, by adding 'con chile' at the end of the item.

Fuck this. Just stick with the new Mexico version. Those fuckers mangled their Spanish. At the very least Chili has meat in it, otherwise it'd just be a sauce, beans are optional

The fact that they had to make cans that specifically say CHILI (with no beans) just shows you how autistic you bean-ers are. They actually have to let you know that their product doesn’t contain an ingredient it was never meant to.
