be honest,
do you make pancakes from scratch, or do you use a mix from the store?
i don't make them very often but i usually just do them from scratch
but i like being able to control the batch size more easily with a mix
it's not like they're that great either way anyway
asking because i might do it tomorrow
thanks

>> No.9603205

I don't use the mix. It's so easy to just mix it up on your own if you have the ingredients which would normally be staple items in most households. I can tell a difference but not much. It's just that they taste better to me and kids notice also. The fat beast mom doesn't notice anything though she just slurps them down and says she didn't get fed enough and wants 8 more sausage links.

Box mix because I'm not a picky autist, it tastes no different.

waffles though are different man
beating up those egg whites an mixing them in last takes to a whole new level

i make them from scratch. i used a mix once because i wanted to be lazy and i have regret it to the point that i never bought a mix ever again.

its like 5 ingredients, why bother with a mix, you dont even have to be exact

Depends on my mood. Also think pancakes are superior.

I unironically use the box mix to make other stuff, and then make my pancakes from scratch.

The box mix was on sale and it claims to be "classic buttermilk flavor" ok so it was tasty to use for breadings and cookies and shit but made kinda nasty pancakes.

I prefer scratch because pancakes are very forgiving, you can throw in nearly anything and mess around.

>> No.9603879

I'll use a mix to make pancakes sometimes, but only Pioneer brand.
Waffles, on the other hand, I always, always make from scratch.

Let the batter rest overnight, it's magical. My mum's recipe:

1 teaspoon (about ½ package) active dry yeast
2 tablespoons lukewarm water
2 cups flour
1½ teaspoons baking powder
1½ teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon kosher salt
2 cups well-shaken buttermilk
3 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons tablespoon honey

Ahh, the wonders of america.

I very rarely cook pancakes so I never buy the box mix, but I always have the basic ingredients around. So on the rare chance I make pancakes I do them from scratch.

The ingredients are all basic kitchen necessities so I've never had reason to buy mix.

If I want to be a lazy piece of shit then I just make the batter ahead of time and keep it in a squeeze bottle.

>> No.9603954

ive always made pancakes from a recipe some old cookbook. i don't make them often enough to remember the proportions of shit. but yeah, i was a breakfast cook at one point at a place that used pancake mix and that shit was just vile

Dude just make your own 'mix'. Just mix up a huge batch of the dry ingredients for your favorite pancake recipe and store it away. Then, when you want pancakes, you just need to grab however much dry mix you need for the amount you want to make and mix the wet ingredients in.

This freezeing it too for max laziness. I do the same for funnel cake batter.

Honestly, I just use complete mix ( just add water.) I make them so rarely that I really don't care. I'm not really into pancakes or waffles. Occasional thing.

>> No.9604729

always make my pancakes from scratch, they always turn out 100 times better
being able to use what ever i want to sweeten them or add more baking powder to make them even fluffier is the best. iv always been told i make the best pancakes, even had a friend over and she tried them and said they were the best she had ever eaten.

Your mom did this because she had your fat ass to feed, and didn't want to dick around in the morning. No adult without children has a goddamn reason to be making pancake batter the night before.

If you've never tried it, mix your batter with cheap beer instead of water. Fluffy and delicious.

Ever since I went to college and had to carry home everything I bought at the store, heavy frivolities like pancake mix are a thing of the past.

Flour, mashed bananas, baking powder, a little salt, cinnamon and/or nutmeg if it's convenient, some kind of liquid, some kind of sweetener if you want

Instead of beer, use club soda. Works the same, but it's neutral tasting.

But I like the taste the beer adds.
