Call me a nignog if you want, but I’ve tried pretty much all the different types of spirits including all the sub-varieties if whiskies from bourbon to Japanese whiskey to Islay Single Malts and at the end of the day, my favourite drink will always be... cognac. I don’t know what it is, but cognac just blows everything else out of the water. I like pic related for something not too expensive but not low end and if I feel like splurging a little, I’ll drink some of my Remy XO. Perhaps one day I will buy a glass of Louis XIII, but spending $7,000 on a bottle of booze seems stupid to me. However, something like pic related is already pretty awesome!

Gin because you can make G&Ts with it, the greatest drink invented by man. Irish whiskey because it doesn't taste of smokey dirt like scotch.

Anything that isn't peated. Peat is what gives it the typical smokey taste, try some sherry cask whisky if you want something sweeter and more generally palatable. Look into speyside whisky, a lot of them fall more into the sweeter end of the spectrum. Balvenie Doublewood is a common one, so is Glenlivet.

When a spirit enters the barrel clear, color implies flavor, but when coloring is added it makes the drink look like something it isn't, in a deceptive way. absolutely true, but it's also just a matter of presentation
two batches of whisky might come out of two different barrels after 10 years and taste virtually identical but one may be more pale than the other, and to avoid the potentially undesirable effect of having two bottles of the same spirit with different shades next to each other on the shelf, the distillery will just add a few drops of caramel coloring to balance the two
it's deceptive but it's also a matter of practicality, figuratively speaking people taste with their eyes first and foremost

I'm sorry, but that is bullshit. That whiskey is made from an amalgamation of many different barrels, mixed together in huge vats. Unless they have two very odd years climate-wise in Kentucky, such that the temperature between winter and summer stays relatively constant, there is no reason that you would even see yearly variations in color. Additionally, there is no reason to believe that that spirit is even aged in fresh barrels. Similarly, since the distillery is adding other flavors, it is likely the worst they had to offer, that wasn't worth aging further.
People's first impressions do come from the look of something, which is why adding colors to something that low-quality is misleading.

My roommate used to buy this whiskey that was $6 for a bottle, "80% grain spirits" and would make you want to retch after a shot. So now whenever I taste whiskey or scotch (even good stuff) a chill goes down my spine and I come close to vomiting. Probably ruined forever.
Vodka is alright if you mix it but I don't like to bother with mixed drinks because you end up consuming so much sugar, and plain shots taste like nail polish remover.
Whereas even mediocre tequila has a nice flavor to it.
I don't know, I'm probably just a bitch. I have friends who can pull from a bottle of Everclear like it's water.
