>buy drinking straw
>fill a small cup anywhere up to anywhere from 1/3rd to 3/4 of the way (I would advise 1/3rd for beginners)

Do you like using palo santo? It gives it a different taste but the palo santo mate cracks easily cause of the high temp. changes with the water or the changes in moisture when you clean it out. It's kinda hard to keep a palo santo mate for long but once it cracks i find it easier to just put that inside a mug and let it spill out in there.

I use a palo santo incased in metal
it actually did crack, but the metal keeps it in place, so it kinda healed and is still perfectly usable
