I love thanksgiving, the whole side of the family (~25 people) get together for a weekend.

Canadian thanksgiving is this weekend.

(Sunday) Pre-dinner:
>Turkey Olympics (lawn games, sometimes bobbing for apples)
>Pool party
>My dad hot-smokes salmon and brings couple fillets
>Brie, sharp white cheddar, other cheese
>Shrimp rings
>Beer around the pool

Main course:
>Huge Turkey, sometimes two smaller ones
>Stuffing
>Mashed potatoes
>Homemade turkey gravy
>Sweet potato crumble
>Corn & broccoli
>Ham & pineapple
>Nearly a dozen bottles of wine

Desert:
>Apple crumble & Ice cream
>Blueberry pie
>Banana bread
>Stuff my female cousins baked

After dinner:
>Euchre tournament
>Christmas gift exchange planning
>Board games

(Monday) brunch the next day:
>Pounds of regular bacon
>Pounds of peameal bacon
>Dozens of eggs with sausage, onions, peppers, cheese
>Fruit
>Quiche
>Muffins

But one of my cousins is getting married, so we're having an engagement party at the same place on Saturday, which will be another all-day thing.

This all takes place in a very large house (Sleeps 12 comfortably) North of Toronto.

Why would thanksgiving be worrying?

I look forward to it. It's an excuse to cook a big fancy meal. Plus, there are always fantastic deals to be had on ingredients after any major holiday like that. All the unsold turkeys (etc.) will get marked down to like crazy. It's a great chance to stock up and fill the freezer.

Thanksgiving refers to the first harvest of Jamestown where after the Indians showed the settlers how to grow corn and they had a huge harvest, they invited the indians to feast for 3 days on the corn and wild turkey.

The genocidal policies don't start until after the Indians sack Jamestown and the settlers spend 10 years hunting down and pushing the Powhatan tribes away from the colony.

Fuck no, Thanksgiving is great. My mom or sister usually hosts everyone(everyone being me, my wife, my 2 sisters, their husbands and their 4 total kids), but everyone contributes some food. Every year we have a big turkey, stuffing, cranberry "sauce"(aka that weird cranberry jello that comes in a can), mashed potatoes, gravy made from the turkey drippings, and then whatever extra casserole or whatever that everyone brings. Last year I brought homemade mac and cheese that had green onions and bacon, might make something similar this year.

Because most of the colonial era was Europeans arriving someplace and by force saying, "Now you play our game, and the rules say we win." You're tired of having a roast turkey one god damn day a year? So you want to have something radically different like [thing people eat all the fucking time]?

>> No.9517708

Not really, since I got divorced I'm a complete hermit . I will cook a turkey breast and my favorite sides and eat for a week as the king of my shack. Holidays seemed so phoney it was hard to enjoy them

Try roasting a whole chicken this year. Do a side of oyster dressing for the last 45 minutes and the smells alone will make you forget for a few minutes humans (especially roasties who use the legal system to fuck over men) are worse than the pile of dogshit your neighbor left in your front yard.

No. Beef is for New Year's. Christmas is absolutely haram with a big ol ham. Lamb is the correct answer for Easter. I don't actually do any of that, but I've thought about it, and it seems like a good system.

I love Thanksgiving, but I'm moving cross-country to start a new job and will probably have to go to my MIL's house, and she's very possessive of the kitchen during the holidays, which means no cooking for me. :( Sucks because I love cooking for Thanksgiving; back when I lived in the UK I'd make a whole Thanksgiving meal for all of my friends.

You can say it jokingly or seriously, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you've taken away their ability to fuck with you. we just had our dinner. I did a lot of prep work in advance; pureed the pumpkins, made the pumpkin soup last week and froze it, made the stuffing at the same time and vacuum sealed it then, did the cranberry sauce, pie and cheese cake 2 days ago and did the meatballs last night all I did day of was the turkey, gravy buns, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and roast sweet potatoes.

make a prep scheduled, do your shop accord to it, keep track of what you need and when you need stuff done. if theres anything you want to add to your dinner, use the scheduled as a guide for where to fit it in so your not panicking or stressing
