Bought this on a whim after coming into some good news. Not very familiar with whiskeys but this one really left me with a positive impression. It tastes like leather smells, super whole cask taste but it's really smooth and smokey. Definitely my favorite current whiskey and it's usually around 20-30 dollars.

Except water is not just for dilution, it creates oxidation which releases the proteins and amino acids in the whisky which make up the esters which you perceive as flavours.
Adding flavoured soda only makes it taste like soda plus whatever fruit and smoke make it through, all the other delicate flavours are gone with adding soda. If you added soda to something like Dalwhinnie you'd get honey and nothing but soda syrup.
If you actually want to appreciate the craft and passion put into older single malts add water and stop being retarded

Jim tastes cheap but is cheap. Jack tastes like almost nothing and ain't cheap. Seriously, Jack is so "mellow" from the sugar maple charcoal or whatever that it tastes like sweetness, a bit of banana, and a little hint of caramel. It's so subdued compared to whiskeys of similar price range.

I'll drink it and it ain't as bad as some whiskey snobs suggest but it certainly ain't worth the price.

Same, man. My store had 6 cases come in about a month ago. All with "picked for [STORE NAME]" labels on them. Pretty cool. I took a sip, my first of Eagle Rare, and I was blown away. It has that smooth character that I love but the dried fruit taste on the finish was the fucking bomb. It comes in rarely, we have a case back there now in case a regular asks. Buffalo Trace is like once every two blue moons.

I am actually not that big of a fan of Buffalo Trace. It's a good middle of the line bourbon...a failsafe backup, if you will. Something I would get if the bar had no other options.

But I would much rather spend my money on a Rittenhouse Rye or Willett Pot Still Reserve. Not a fan of the Jap whiskeys even though they get a lot of hype for some reason. Overrated, IMO. Johnny Drum is good from what I have heard

I don't give a crap if you confuse the terms whiskey or whisky because as far as I know they mean the same thing (though I admit I am no expert on the matter). The magazine vs. clip bothers me because those are two fundamentally different things; it makes no sense to use the same word for both.

I'm not sure what your job is or what hobbies you have, but I'm sure there are terms involved with that which the average joe probably uses wrong and would likely bother you.

If you work in a gun store that absolutely can cause confusion. Someone walks in and says he wants 'clips for a Lee-Enfield'. Do I get him the stripper clips that I think he wants or do I get him magazines? The gun uses both. Many other guns do too.
