Gotta understand that some of us are new to whisky and have to dance around like little faggots for a while to get our feet in the water.
At least I'm not taking it as a shot, whining about how it tastes like ass, and then dismissing the entire drink for the rest of my life.

Except water is not just for dilution, it creates oxidation which releases the proteins and amino acids in the whisky which make up the esters which you perceive as flavours.
Adding flavoured soda only makes it taste like soda plus whatever fruit and smoke make it through, all the other delicate flavours are gone with adding soda. If you added soda to something like Dalwhinnie you'd get honey and nothing but soda syrup.
If you actually want to appreciate the craft and passion put into older single malts add water and stop being retarded

The only true way to refine your palate is to expose yourself to the basic flavors and scents that are generally found in bourbon. Have you ever just really focused on the taste of straight vanilla or straight corn? Look at a bourbon flavor wheel and try to taste the the essence of the descriptors. This applies to tasting in general--so go out and taste some spices straight up, smell some different woods, eat some dirt and shit and your ability to describe and notice what you taste will start to improve.

Bought one earlier today since its amazingly cheap by Norwegian standards and it was surprisingly good. Reminded me a bit of Lagavulin, though been ages since I had some.

I really liked green label, but I've only had a very small taste.
The blue was incredibly smooth which i felt appropriate for the $200 I spent on the bottle.

What is a reasonable price to pay for green? Pretty sure my liquor store has it at $180 which doesnt seem right.

i mean, i know a lot of /ck/ people are just /tv/'s disgusting runoff, but i didn't think we were so fucked that we'd be fine with calling bourbon whiskey. do it the fucking courtesy of calling it whisky you brain-dead fucking simpletons.

also teeling is some good shit. it's actual whiskey, and it's really smooth. they aged their whiskey in rum barrels for an extra six months and i think it helps to smooth it out a bit. it's 46% abv, and it only comes with a cork thing instead of a cap, which is some hipster bullshit if ever i've seen it.

Different places spell the word "whiskey" differently. You might see whisky, etc, instead. To most people this is an insignificant regional difference, sort of like the US "color" to British "colour". To spergs the distinction is major, and perhaps borders on so-called fightin' words.

I don't give a crap if you confuse the terms whiskey or whisky because as far as I know they mean the same thing (though I admit I am no expert on the matter). The magazine vs. clip bothers me because those are two fundamentally different things; it makes no sense to use the same word for both.

I'm not sure what your job is or what hobbies you have, but I'm sure there are terms involved with that which the average joe probably uses wrong and would likely bother you.

Wouldn't the words "Bourbon" or "Rye" or even the name of the distitllery/bottling render the spelling of the word whiskey/whisky irrelevant?

If you work in a gun store that absolutely can cause confusion. Someone walks in and says he wants 'clips for a Lee-Enfield'. Do I get him the stripper clips that I think he wants or do I get him magazines? The gun uses both. Many other guns do too.
