My problem with lettuce (and greens in general, but especially lettuce) is that they spoil easily. What are some tips to store lettuce so the greens don't spoil? I'm tired of having to leave the house every day just for some fresh greens. Thanks.

I put lettuce in a ziploc bag, close it all the way except for a hole at the end just big enough for a plastic drinking straw and suck the air out of the bag. In a vacuum it lasts for over a week in the refrigerator.

Do you unpack the lettuce or just put it in as a whole? Also any particular kind of ziplock bags you'd recommend?

I chop my lettuce, throw it in a Ziploc bag and squeeze the air out of it before fully sealing it and toss it in the bottom bin of my fridge. Lasts about 10 days before showing signs of wilting.

It doesn't really matter. I find it easier to close the bag faster with the conventional type as opposed to the zipper slider type. And yes, I unwrap the lettuce, wash and pat dry the surface and remove the outer leaves before it goes in vacuum stasis. Whole or half heads last a week+. Precut lettuce lasts about 5 days.

Grow your own lettuce and just pick off a few leaves at a time when you need it. No need to harvest an entire head.
