My family is half Danish. Every one I've ever seen has those flags, including all the ones my mother and grandmother made. They're traditional for sure.

I'm not too fond of them though. They are made of ground-up almonds and sugar so they are extremely rich, much more so than a normal cake made from flour. I'm also not a big fan of almonds in general so....yeah...not my favorite.

In a a good chunk of Mexico, kids get their Christmas gifts in january 6th (these guys https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblical_Magi are the ones who bring the gifts, not Meme Claus). Pic related it's the traditional bread for that day. It has a little toy (usually a baby Jesus) hidden in one of the slices. The one who gets it has to buy tamales for everyone at February 2. It basically is, but istead of a brulee you just let the top of it get a bit burned and dried
Funny story. My mother is the kind of person who is always tired of your shit, the kind of person that saw you making bread from scratch and then told you that there was a bakery 5min away and that you look ridiculous.
One day I asked for Creme brulee in a restaurant, when it was served my mother told me "That's just a fucking Jericalla". I now sometimes ask for Creme brulees in front of her just to piss her off a bit. Not that I like it that much, the burned taste is niche, but nothing compares to Guayaba flan (Creme caramel with Guayaba) bathed in cajeta (burned milk sweet)

California, we're mostly known for fruit pastries and whatnot. Like many states with major cities we also reinvent foods.

One specific thing I can think of is the boysenberry. Rudolph Boysen was believed to be the first to cross previous berries to create it. His creation received little attention and he abandoned his crop after seriously injuring his back. Walter Knott heard about this short lived berry and tracked Boysen down. He took some specimens to his own farm to revive the crop to much success. Along with his family's restaurant, pies, and Mrs. Knott's preserves, boysenberries kickstarted the theme park we know today as Knott's Berry Farm. The boysenberry has spread beyond California with New Zealand being the largest producer and exporter of boysenberries in the world.

It's a bun spiced with cardamum. It has not been hollowed out, but between it is a layer of almond paste and whipped cream with some vanilla sugar sprinckled on top slice. You usually take the top and scoop up some of the whipped cream first, followed by eating the lower half of the bun with the almond paste and remaining whipped cream.

We have the same thing in Hungary, called szilvás gombóc. The way I've always had it is actually as a potato based dough (the dough is very mildly sweetened if at all). The "dumplings" are boiled and then topped with buttery bread crumbs. They're topped off with powdered sugar.

Although you could consider them a dessert, since they're so filling its not unusual to just eat 2 or 3 of these for a dinner.

Torta de Milhojas, Chile (also exist in a few other South American coutries).
It's a sort firmer form of a puff pastry, every layer is coated with dulce the leche. My favorite variation has also cream and rose hip jam.

We eat potatoes as a dessert. They are made of almond paste and genoise filled with cream. They are often covered with chocolate powder to give a earthy look.

New Orleans has some good desserts, but bananas foster takes the cake for me. It's so simple, just caramelized bananas, vanilla ice cream and that caramel sauce. But holy shit it's just awesome.

Tbh I haven't seen it much outside the Eastern Part of France, mainly in Alsace. Maybe it's an Alsatian thing, but I've never heard anyone telling me so, so I just assumed that it was French.

Latte dolce (literally "sweet milk"), Italy, but from a specific region, Liguria.

Basically whole milk + some flour and eggs, fried. It completes the big fritto misto with a dessert.
