Best sandwich I've made.

Spicy chicken sautéd on cast iron, then toasted sour dough on the leftover oil from the chicken. Flip the bread, and as the outside toasts adding the chicken, cheddar cheese, lettuce, mayo, mustard, hot sauce, and pressed on the skillet.

Ate a combo with hot peppers and mozz at Portillo's today. It's not Johnnie's, but it's close by. Other god tier Chicago-area wiches include the corned beef at Kaufman's deli, the burger at Small Cheval, the original Maxwell St. polish, italian sandwiches at L'Appetito and the breaded steak at Ricobene's. I have yet to discover the city's best reuben or the essential chicago dog; none have been as good as homemade, where I always toast the bun, char the dog and go minimalist with mustard, celery salt and a pickle spear.

Cheez Wiz wasn't around when they first started making cheesesteaks, but it surprised me to learn that it's much older than I expected. It was apparently around in the 50s.

Like others have said, I've never seen locals getting wiz, and the mom and pop places often don't have it and use American, provolone, or Swiss instead. Ordering "wiz wit" is probably an invention of the Philly visitors bureau or something.
