Find a cuisine you enjoy, find recipes and follow those instructions to start. After making the food think of what to improve upon. Modify and keep those changes in mind when you make that same dish the next time.

Slow cooker recipes, pretty delicious and all you need is time.
>What makes good food?
Ultimately its the taste, a balance of flavors. Presentation means nothing if you aren't looking to go pro. Its also really gratifying to make a dish that you would normally go to a restaurant for and make it at home for less. That is what drives me to cook at least...

think of food you really enjoy and do online searches for their recipes. Just print out a fuck ton of recipes from online sources

start with soups and casseroles, they are easy to follow, really hard to fuck up, and usually really cheap to make.

If your cooking for yourself then all that matters is that you like what you produce. Nothing else matters. If your cooking for others than focus a lot on presentation. People judge and eat with their eyes, and remember, your never going to please everyone because everyone has different tastes

Anything that involves ground beef and a skillet. Burgers and tacos for example can be made quickly, easily, and can be easily modified to experiment or make them fit your personal tastes, plus they are hard to fuck up. Overall a good starting place for learning to cook.
