Anyone else try this or a similar service? My roommate has been getting a box a week with 3 meals worth of ingredients and recipes. It's pretty good ingredients and the people putting the recipes together seem to know what they're doing most of the time. Everything has been well portioned out, even for 2 guys it tends to be a lot of food.

Anyone with ~2 hours a week to spare and a modicum of intelligence could achieve the same effect by researching recipes themselves and meal planning, except for significantly cheeper. hell, you could even get the groceries delivered and not bother going to the store.

Really no reason to do this besides the combo of rich+lazy

It's really not that expensive for what you get. If you tried to make the same dishes you would spend much more on ingredients just because what you get is portioned out instead of you buying a jar of olives or whatever else you need.

>2 oz olives for one dish at $2 (as part of meal box)

>10 oz olives for $6

>"uhhh 6 bigger than 2"

Only if you don't use the ingredients eventually does it become more expensive. That's where meal planning comes in.

I was curious so I looked up the prices for this sun basket service. For the cheapest plan you get 3 recipes a week (consisting of 2-4 portions, but lets be realistic, the "official" size is about 8oz per portion so in actuality you get about 2 meals per recipe if you're not a manlet, totaling 6 meals) for $75/week.
75/6 = $12.5 per meal.
The average cost for an American preparing their own meals + shopping (and not having to pay for shipping) is around 30-40 dollars.
So the price for this service is the same as eating out AND you have to cook it yourself, so it's actually MORE expensive if you're factoring in time.

Yeah but you're not factoring in the point of this specific service. It's all high quality and organic stuff. It's not the average Walmart ingredients

The point is that it's easy and cooking is fun. You are paying a premium for having some of the work cut out of cooking for yourself. The ingredients they are sourcing are something you can find at a chain store and will still cost you nowhere near 12.50 a plate.
