I'm not as crazy as you, but if I'm not buying local I do let my impressions of the country of origin effect my purchase. For example I avoid Italian olive oil because I know it gets stepped on. I like French products, but don't like paying a premium for them at fancy shops. I tend to favor products from Spain, Greece, Mexico, Turkey and Lebanon because I like the food from those countries. I'd hesitate to buy anything from Japan these days because who knows how bad the radiation over there really is? And I avoid buying anything from Israel because my taxes already support those guys more than enough. I'll buy rice from Egypt and Pakistan, but not much else. I try to minimize Chinese imports because I don't trust their QC. I feel the same way about most US mass market products.
