Potatoes are better than rice. Throw in some cheap veggies like cabbage too And some eggs and liver. Much better still dirt cheap very nutritious. But yeah beans and rice are fine whatever lol.

Meat and potatoes is easily better than beans and rice and also easier to make.

Caviar, kobe beef, and white truffles are better for you. Spice it up with some saffron while you're at it.

>Is beans and rice the cheapest most acceptable meal for poverty? If not what is?
It's the fillingest starchiest meal. But, soup with bread is probably the better choice, using bones, lots of vitamins, etc.

There is a health life sustaining "complete protein" that happens when you combine beans and rice. However, rice that isn't brown isn't totally healthy and shouldn't be eaten every day. White rice has enriched vitamins added back, but if you soak them, you rinse all that required goodness off. It has a high glycemic index and can lead to long term problems.

You'd be better off tossing veggies of any type, big old cheap carrots, onions, garlic, celery, maybe some yellow squash or butternut.Whatever BOGO sale you find on frozen veggies is adequate too. Peppers have as much vitamin C as citrus. Inexpensive lower priced cuts of meat on the bone add richness. Potatoes are filling if you don't want some whole grain breads or pasta added. Dumplings are cheap.
Pic is ajiaco. Caribbean grandmas make their own sofrito and freeze it, spoon out a couple Tbsps to flavor whatever they are making. Don't forget monks live on soup and bread. It works.

More expensive and I would also argue less easier to make.

Potatoes are a complete protein, just a pretty low amount. The amino acid score is very good.

>brown rice better than any other rice
This is the most untrue thing ever
Literally every chink, moon, gook etc eats white rice of various grain lengths every day for every meal and is probably healthier than most americans.
Poverty meals over there are tea on rice and those poor people probably live longer than some shithead trying to live off of beans and rice in the US

Haiga rice is the best of both worlds.
It still has the nutrient rich rice germ attached to the white rice, but has been polished enough to not have the useless indigestible fiber shell.

It's also 2-3 times the price of white rice.
