She was a pioneer, and helped revive real cooking in the mid to late 20th century in the US. And she was clever and hilarious. One of my favorite episodes of Julia Cooks with Master Chefs is an episode where she and the chef (can't remember who it was) were making something with bourbon, and she kept telling him to add more, and said "Everything's better with plenty of bourbon" in that burbly old lady voice of hers. Fucking GOLD. That quote sings through my head every time I'm making something with bourbon, like Bourbon Pecan Pie, which I make for my family pretty much every holiday.

Nothing wrong with that at all. People are allowed to think what they think.

Just like you're being allowed to hate Julia if you like.

only popular because of public television and socialism.

She was born in 1912. If she were alive today she'd be older than the oldest person you know. Very few of her generation weren't homophobic. I mean, shit, for most of her life homosexuality was considered a disease. What the hell was she supposed to think?

Very few people areN'T born homophobic.

Find any straight 14 yo boy in puberty and show him pics of guys fucking... all normal people would react by looking away.

It takes training & years of teaching by society to brainwash kids not to wince at faggotry. That's biological nature.

Interesting perspective. I don't think it works that way though. I remember being 14. I was horny as fuck. I didn't consider sex with guys because I grew up thinking it was shameful and wrong. Plus I was attracted to girls. But that didn't stop me from having sex with several dogs, my younger sister and a couple of my friends' sisters. Would probably have been less messy in retrospect to have just had a DL bro or two until I was old enough to find better outlets for my sexuality.

She and her husband were literally spies. She reminds me of Mom from Futurama, pleasant public persona, complete piece of shit when not in character.

That's because they're STRAIGHT, dummy. Heterosexuality and Homosexuality are wired in the brain, not the genitals. Show a gay fourteen year old boy a pic of guys having sex, and he'll be fine with it.

Wrong. How do you explain all the homosexual experimentation by adolescents back in the day when they had single gender boarding schools? That should demonstrate clearly that the Kinseyian research that showed a more bell curve type distribution is accurate. There's a very small percentage on one side that are exclusively heterosexual and on the other side homosexual. 90% of the population falls in some intermediary on the bell curve.

Jacques Pepin?
Twitch has a food channel that used to play that show quite often.
