Hey there /ck/. I'm tired of living off spaghetti and takeout. I want to learn to cook. Where do I start? There arent really any youtube channels about it and I dont want to pay for classes. Are books my only option?

Step 1: Heat up food in a pan
Step 2: Eat it

Cooking is hard guise

listen closely kid, im about to impart some ancient cooking knowledgebombs on you

chop vegetables
mix ingredients
boil water
heat oven
apply heat
wait time

thats 80% of cooking right there. use this information wisely
on a more serious note, stop thinking cooking is rocket science. cavemen invented cooking. it is not complicated. if you feel like eating something, google up a recipe and follow it. the best way to learn the minutia of cooking is to do it

Nice, this is great.

>>8948168
yes, let me go to the food store to buy food to heat up. Kinda sounds like microwave food.

>>8948174
80% of chemistry is distilling chemicals
Mixing catalysts
Adding heat
Applying a vacuum
Wait time

Everything sounds simple when you dont actually say anything.

If you want a super basic book, then "How to Cook Everything" by Mark Bittman is as basic as it gets.

Youtube is generally decent though. Look up Food Wishes. You'll have to get used to his intonation though. It triggers people.

what specific things in that list of basic cooking actions do you think are complex?

Have you even looked?
Gordon Ramsay
Food Wishes
Jamie Oliver
Genarro Contaldo
Cooking in Russia

To name but a few you should watch.

Cooking an egg on shitty fucking nonstick that doesn't even work.

Thanks senpai, I'll try those out too.

Boiling water is pretty hard desu.
But seriously, 'ingredients'. Ok, cool, which ones? How do you figure out which one's go together? What compliment's what? how much do you add?

>>8948227
Oh, so there are youtube channels. Thanks senpai.

>>8948235
put some butter or oil on the pan before putting the egg on it to make it not stick

>>8948239
>But seriously, 'ingredients'. Ok, cool, which ones?
fair enough, let me add a modern knowledgebomb to the list (that i already alluded towards in the later part of my post)
google recipe

as for the rest of your post, experiment. you are not going to go from boiling spaghetti to expert chef in a day. ill say it again, the best way to learn the minutia of cooking is to do it. even then, you could be a lazy shit and google "im cooking _____, what flavors go with it"

>> No.8948254

>>8948252
>put some butter or oil on the pan
IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK, FUCK YOU.

>> No.8948255

>>8948252
Ok, that's a good way to look at it. Building that knowledge over time by starting with what you have and researching what you should add.

Just find some recipes online that appeal to you. Cook said recipes. Keep cooking stuff you enjoy from recipes online. Become cook.

It's not really that hard OP. Just cook. That's how you learn. If a technique confuses or scares you just watch a video on YT about specific technique. No one is going to hold your hand and walk you through it all. You need to show some initiative.

Go to fucking Walmart and get a really cheap shitty nonstick, and literally only use it for eggs. It's what I do. Just don't use metal spatulas on it or you'll ruin it.

>> No.8949793

Not OP but what does /ck/ think of the "tasty" videos popping up facebook?
