Some types of apples like Honeycrisp can be expensive, depending on the season and how the harvest went for that year. If you sample enough, you can find pretty good ones for $1/lb. Last year's gala harvests here were actually pretty good and very cheap.

what is so special about these honeycrisp apples?
In Europe the most expensive "bio" apples are 4€/kig (1$ ~ 0.9€), the common price is 2-3€/kg. And here average price is 1-1.5$kg, 2$/kg are considered expensive. In Estonia I've seen apples for 60¢/kg.
I also know that many muricans fall for this "bio eco nongmo withoit radioactive waste" meme vegs and fruit which are expensive as fuck, but do normal ones cost significantly less?

Wouldn't work, the machines weigh the product when you put in the bag area, it would know the soda isn't steak.

Produce availability. Some countries may have high yields when a product is in season so they're cheap, then when they fall out of season the imported ones cost more
