yerba mate in the morning if working day / coffee if not
tea in the afternoon unless I have work to do, then it's more mate for me

How is mate? I've always been intrigued by it but never really gave it a shot. Same with cassina.

stimulating as fuck if you drink it the traditional way aka loose, drinking straw, 1/2 of the cup, many consecutive steepings and all that jazz
taste took some getting used to but I like it, a bit like strong green tea with some smokey notes (if it's dried over fire)
paraguayan mate is generally strong and smokey, complex but difficult (my favorite)
argentinian is more mild and less ground up (good for beginners)
brazilian is fresher and more vegetal, like some green teas

Brewing methods reminds me a bit of Gong Fu style tea. I'll have to try this out, any good brands/suppliers to recommend?

yeah it is a lot like gong fu, generally even more leaves and steepings, I basically fill 3/4 of the cup with leaves since I've been drinking this stuff for a few years now
most prepackaged south american brands are good, don't buy loose teashop-style mate, it's generally too expensive and old
I started with Rosamonte Suave since it's quite mild, Cruz de Malta is similar but more caffeine
Pajarito is great too if you're craving something stronger, I'm a big fan but probably pick something else for now
mate doesn't really have grades the way tea does, most mate is similarly priced unless it's organic, then it's like 50% more expensive

I on average drink 2 gallons or so of tea a day. In the morning and evening hot tea, at meals large amounts of iced tea. On average I have a gallon of iced peach tea with dinner.
