Has anyone besides me tried Durian?

I don't understand why people say it smells and tastes like rotting garbage, to me it tasted sweet but slightly metallic, and the texture was like pudding. I don't see myself eating it everyday, but I don't understand why people think it is horrible. What do you guys think?

Are there any other strange fruits that you have tried and loved?

Found a Buddha's Hand in a regular Kroger one time, which was strange enough.

It was good but weird. I was kind of confused about what to do with what amounts to a mutated lemon with no pulp.

I fuckin love durian. Been eating is semi-regularly since i was a kid.

Having a few in your kitchen wont stink it up.

They actually have signs in Malaysia asking people not to bring durians into certain spaces (like hotels) because of the smell. Maybe the heat makes the smell worse.

Where did you try the durian? If it wasn't Malaysia or imported from Malaysia, then don't bother. Thai durians are a far cry from their Malaysian brethren. As >>8687530
pointed out, durians are banned in public transit and from airports in Malaysia and Singapore because of the fruit's pungency.

The taste is awesome, but the smell is like death. When it's hot, it smells like vomit covered in flies.

i'm not fond of the taste myself but rotting garbage is definitely an exaggeration there. It's more like the worst possible combination of almonds and garlic if you ask me.

The smell on the other hand....

It tastes like gym socks to me. Maybe my taste buds aren't dead enough

I bought it from an Asian market, I live in Florida so I don't know if my tropical climate makes any difference
