Protein is easy. Just eat a bunch of beans or nuts. Hell, 2000 calories of potato has 40-50 grams of protein.

Or, learn to make seitan. Isn't that had. Pic related, slice of some seitan I made (the slice had roughly 40g of protein in it)

My point is that if you're eating enough calories, it's pretty hard to get too little protein, unless you're trying to build muscle or something that requires more protein than normal. I average 80-100g/day on a vegan diet, mostly because I eat a lot of beans and cook lots of seitan/roasted tofu.

Again, my point is that regardless of what you eat, unless it's cassava or something, you'll probably get enough protein. Even if all you ate was potato, and potato isn't known for being high in protein.

If you look at the chart I posted, potato is one of the worst things on there. But, for comparison, some types of bread are higher in protein by weight/calorie than oscar mayer wieners, green peas are similar to 2% milk, lentils are similar to poached eggs, tempeh is comparable to 80% lean ground beef, tofu (especially pressed) is between that and steak, seitan can have more protein by calorie and weight than tenderloin, etc.

>>8613275
Quinoa is also. If you're combining foods then it's trivial to get complete proteins: rice and beans, seitan made with soy sauce, hummus and pita, ezekiel bread, peanut butter sandwich, etc.

In reality, if you eat a varied diet, you will get enough of all essential amino acids over the course of a day that you're not going to have any problems.

>>8613279

Potato is about 9% protein by calorie, so if you ate 2000 calories of potato then you would end up with about 45 grams of protein, not 20.

If, on the other hand, you eat a balanced diet that averages 15-20% protein, that is 75-100g protein.

For reference:
* sweet corn and quinoa are both about 15% protein by calorie
* in the 15-20% range are most nuts/seeds (many of which are more protein dense per gram than eggs).
* Chickpeas are 20%; kidney, black, and lima beans 25%
* green peas ~27%
* tempeh is on average around 35%
* tofu about 43%
* seitan and TVP are 60%+

etc

Yeah, I do. It's not *that* messy, but I make everything from scratch anyway (including nondairy butter), so my threshold for messy might be different.

Basically, my method is:

1. Make a slurry (pressed tofu, mashed potato, pureed beans, etc, + water + soy sauce + olive oil)
2. Mix gluten flour, seasonings, etc, separately
3. Pour slurry into flour mixture, mix until it comes together, then knead on a surface floured with gluten (I'm careful kneading so the flour doesn't get off the cutting board) for however long it takes, let it rest midway so it hydrates completely
4. Cook* and then let it chill overnight in marinade (chilling in marinade is extremely important to texture)

* For cooking, usually I either wrap in cheesecloth and steam, or wrap in foil like a tootsie pop, bake, and then simmer in stock). You can get fancy and try frying the outside to get a better skin, pic related

For comparison, my seitan has these macros:

1 serving, about 1/4 lb
> 222 calories
> 132 calories from protein / 33g protein
> 3g fat
> 16g net carbs (2g fiber, 3g sugar)

If I ate 1lb of that per day (888 calories), I'd be getting 132g of protein just from seitan. If I was on a 2000 calorie diet, it would be pretty difficult to get less than another 30g~ or so of protein in the remaining 1100~ calories. In total, you'd be looking at 160g+ protein/day.

Seitan is a complete protein as long as you add a source of lysine. I usually use tofu and soy sauce in my seitan (both are high in lysine), and you could also add lentils, for example.

As long as you get all the essential amino acids in a day, your body can figure out the rest anyway. Getting all the amino acids at once isn't actually necessary, it turns out.

But all you have to do is eat varied. I don't get all these people who think you can only get protein from one or two sources, literally just eat beans or peas with your rice or spaghetti, add some nuts to your oats

>> No.8626190

>>8626159
>I don't get all these people
They're used to eating extremely protein-dense foods (i.e., meat) where at least half the food mass they consume is something like bread, french fries, etc. There is no ingredient that will proportionally sub out for meat at a 1;1 ratio, you can't just randomly take meat recipes and swap out bean mash or minced tofu or mushrooms, which is what vegetarian/vegan dining did in the 1970s when this sort of thing was a new and unknown way of eating. You have to be willing to try other recipes and other styles of eating that don't try to mimic the plating aesthetics of hamburgers and pork chops. This is usually too much for people especially people who aren't comfortable thinking about nutrition and trying new foods that don't look like what they're used to.

It might work alright if you are sedentary but if you are on a weight training program and going for a significantly elevated protein intake, it's not sustainable. You'll feel like shit and you may resort to overeating because your body is telling you "I want 90g of protein NOW" and your food is giving you maybe 1/7th of its calories from protein, when what you really need is 1/3 or more.

>Younger’s turning point came in June 2014, exactly a year after she founded her blog, when she confided in a friend about her lack of menstruation — a condition medically known as amenorrhea — for at least six months.

>A dietician confirmed that fish and eggs would boost her poor nutrient levels. Refusing to lie to her fans, Younger announced on her blog that same month that she was “transitioning away from veganism.”

>That’s when all hell broke loose. Her site crashed within two minutes and 1,000 followers instantly ditched her. Worse, she received anonymous death threats from hard-core vegans claiming she condoned the slaughter of animals and that neither she nor her family had the right to live.

I assume you meant nine. There are nine essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are ones we cannot create ourselves. That is why they are called essential. While there are many more amino acids, they are not essential because our bodies can synthesize them. We do not need to eat them (some exceptions for babies and diseases of course).

anyone who does exercise with the aim of improving physical apperance is a "bodybuilder". my elderly mom who does back exercises to improve her posture is a bodybuilder. a person who is at a healthy body mass but does situps and stuff like that in order to get a six pack is a body builder. I lift a couple of times a week and you wouldn't know it unless I ripped my shirt off because it's just something I do to be well rounded. there are no huge veins popping out of my neck muscles, and I don't wear muscle shirts.

body building does not mean being a roid raging freak, spending 40 hours a week in the weight room, or whatever sedentary lazy fucks think it means. it just means taking your appearance into your own hands. it's the journey, not the destination.

but then again I have to remember where I am, if you believe racism is bad you must be a kill whitey black panther type, if you think sexism is bad you must be a pink haired fat bulldyke who screams "rapist" at every man who says "hello", if you tip you're an entitled waiter, if you have any standards whatsoever you're an elitist snob. but I typed all that out so I'm gonna post anyway.
