i get to wash dishes, be kitchen janitor, and run around taking temperatures while everyone else cooks. sometimes they'll let me cut veggies. one time they let me put soup in some kind of oven but i burned my face because no one said it went through a steam cycle and you're supposed to let out the steam

i hate my life but it's easy work for the money and girls say i look cute in my cook uniform

ive been in that hell before
it sounds cliche, but all you need to do is show some initiative and do things that servers do for them:
>run food
>check on tables, ask if they need anything
>ask servers/managers if you can help with anything
>do sidework (this one is the most important)
all without being asked to do so, and just frequently state to a manager in a confident, but polite manner that you want to serve.
