Black coffee and licorice made me gag when I was a kid, but I kept eating/drinking it because I was a stupid kid who thought it was cool to be contrarian. Turns out that if you keep eating bitter stuff, the bitter slowly fades away, and you can actually start to taste it. Now coffee and licorice tastes good. The taste for bitterness is acquired.
