Hi /ck/

I have budgeted approx. $300 USD to start filling a liquor cabinet. What are some essential brands/types of booze I should buy? Liqueur? Mixes? Thanks in advance

Kahlua even though I only use it for White Russians

Though I'm sure you can make your own and work it in there

Smirnoff seems to be the best vodka base for cocktails, though anything not completely bottom shelf works. I suppose you could buy a cheap one and just run it through a filter too.

Gin, Brandy, White Rum, Spiced Rum, Vodka, Whiskey, Scotch and some Sake. Also mixers (cranberry juice, pineapple juice) and stuff like grenadine and blue curacao.

For tools you'll need a jigger, a shaker, a bottle opener, strainer, hand juicer, a small cutting board and a pairing knife. Other stuff is just straws and napkins. Stuff like a blender and drink umbrellas are optional.

Assuming you get good stuff, that should be about $1100 dollars. Good luck OP.

Check out Alton Brown's cocktail episodes. They go into equipment your booze cabinet needs: appropriate size glasses, shakers, measuring jiggers etc. They go into how to make some of the classic drinks too: martinis, daiquiris and margaritas. Mojitos, Manhattans, and whiskey sours are all good too. Start with what you like, and expand from there.

On an average day I'd start a rant about how silly it is to start with the idea of making a liquor cabinet instead of exploring and "building it up" more naturally after you'd find out what you like and experimenting etc.

But anyways, I'd start with 1 vodka, 1 gin, 1 burboun, something sweet that ladies usually like (whiskey cream, anything vanilla flavored, etc), some rum (because I love rum), and an unlimited supply of quality whisk(e)y

For the non-whisky I'd just get average priced stuff and see what it's like

For the actually important part, the whisky, my favs are:
Glenlivet (any age)
Aberlour (any age)
Glenfiddich (I think it was the 16 yo)
Some Japanese whiskey who's name I forgot, but having a decent Japanese whisky is nice, because you can make a ~highball, which is suuuch a chill and comfy drink for how simple it is

Post pics when you're done OP, don't be selfish eh
