Nigger, do you have any idea what those tomatoes go through to get here? Even if they were canned in Italy minutes after being picked they're gonna lose freshness. If you've never had a tomato straight from the garden to your plate then you've never actually tasted a tomato. The canned stuff from mega-corporations like Hunt's aren't real tomatoes, they're genetically engineered tomato product. No tomato in the world will taste as good as a freshly picked homegrown mater. #science #TurnUp

What do you do when tomatoes aren't in season?

Buy the canned stuff. Red Gold is the tastiest imo.

This is bullshit. Many italian dishes call for tomato paste over fresh tomatoes for a reason.

I got suckered by some meme 'toes yesterday with 'HIGH LYCOPENE CONTENT' on the pack.

they were fucking delicious. it must have been the lycopene - whatever that is.

Those genetically altered tomatoes are still tomatoes.

That's bullshit though. If your garden has shitty soil you're gonna end up with shitty tomatoes. The seeds you plant also play a huge role.

you forgot the most important thing. A shit-load of sunshine.

>shitty soil

That's easily remedied with some composted manure. But you're right, you want a high nitrogen content and bonemeal for calcium to prevent blossom end rot.

I grow tomatoes every year. I've grown San Marzano twice. I've had canned San Marzano straight from Italy.

Both times they tasted like every other Roma tomato that I've ever had. Fuck off with the memes.

And what reason would that be?

they're undeniably better but certainly not worth the six dollars per can vs. one dollar for normal, here.

They're 4 dollars per can where I live

They're tomatoes in the same way Robocop is human.
