Any bartenders here? How's it like?
Thinking of trying it out but I dont know anything about mixing alcohol
This could also make me socially better and it'll be fun mixing stuff

First, LOOK UP DRINK RECIPES. LEARN THEM.

Is there a good source?
Is it unacceptable for bartenders to have a tablet or book on him to look up stuff?

you want to show the bar owner that you know a few drinks. it's all muscle memory.

coming in with a book will get you laughed out of the bar.

I can do that, just wondering if you can look up shit when someone asks for obscure drinks

Most people don't. Make an Old Fashioned, a Moscow Mule, and a Manhattan. Get drunk. Try again and make sure they're the same. You will be drunk at work frequently. Practice.

Any good ideas on how to practice before working so I can have "experience." Like maybe going to parties with various liquor and mixing it for people?

get an app for your phone.
google 20 cocktails to know and learn to make them.

Make your high balls 60/40 to soda at least if it's anything better that well.

Learn how to politely tell customers to fuck off if you get hired somewhere that doesn't let you say "get the fuck out of my bar"

Sure. Go to parties. Go to bars and pay attention to what the bartender is doing. Buy some booze and practice.

There's also plenty of videos on Youtube that show the making of various cocktails. Watch. Practice. Follow along.

I work in a bar (but I'm not a bartender), and have been frequenting multiple bars for years. Bartenders know all the basic drinks. They'll check their phone if you ask for some dumb secret shit no one's heard of, and they'll have cheat sheets for the specials (especially if they've just changed their drink menu), but they don't typically have recipe books at the bar.

I did see a girl at a casino bar pull out a book to make me a fucking margarita, though. Pissed me off, to be honest.

Dear lord. Well, at least it wasn't dispensed from one of those frozen-drink machines.
