I loved him in Good Eats, unfortunately that was his peak. Good Eats Alton Brown is definitely food network spirit animal material.
He's really funny in Cutthroat Kitchen though.

>> No.8233492

Good eats is amazing, he gives great science and background to the food and explains the why. I have always loved that. Recently he's been more of a public figure of sorts, which is kinda sad because I don't really care about what he thinks politically, I just want him to challenge my way of thinking about food.

As a chef, he's pretty good and knows the science. Behind cooking very well. Hes probably closer to a chef with a specialization in Gastronomy than an actual restauranteur but that's his thing.

As far as his private life is concerned, he's based and anyone who says otherwise is a butthurt faggot. I'm probably biased though since I met him and he's a really nice guy and not just a face.

Like many have said he's not a great chef but his explanation of the basics and how things work when cooking is excellent and gives you a good foundation to work from instead of just copying recipes by rote.

Apparently you've never watched Good Eats because multiple times each season he would go to demonstrate something and the Legal Guys would come out and give him paperwork saying he can't. It wasn't just a funny bit, Food Network seriously didn't want him showing how to use potentially dangerous ingredients/methods. One that springs to mind was anything that involved lye wasn't allowed so he would show alternate methods.

Well he's not married anymore and he only had 1 kid, so you're partially correct. However I've seen him hit on girls since his divorce, so I really don't think he's gay. He's kind of moved away from the whole super-diet/metrosexual fashionista thing anyways. He also gained a bit of weight again, and I think he's more chill and friendly when he's chubby.

of course it was a bit
are you suggesting that food network is the only thing holding him back from sharing the true secrets of cooking?
the g-man bits were for copyright infringements and dangerous cooking methods that have been know to cause harm
he mentioned those methods because that was history of the cooking, but today we don't allow it because it is dangerous to reproduce those methods

i guarantee that his YouTube channel will also tie him up legally for the same reasons
can you imagine if he put a semi "dangerous" recipe online and someone got hurt/sick; he has a lot of money, that's a big target for being sued

Like others have said, Good Eats was his peak.

They made a mistake with Iron Chef America.

One of the big reasons the Japanese one worked is they had both the play-by-play commentator, and the color commentator.

On the American version, Alton just did both, and it was a bridge too far. It would have been better if he had someone else to work with. Brown could have done both. Probably Brown as play-by-play, with a real expert chef as color commentator.

Cutthroat Kitchen is shit. It's a reality show where they fucking ruin each others opportunity, and the food suffers because of it. It's the opposite of why I want to watch cooking shows.

>> No.8240578
