Anyone here drink mead /ck/?

About to hit the liquor store tonight (Canada) but there are always shitty versions of all drinks that some brewery or distillery fucks up with Cranberrys or something. Anyone had success with a certain type of mead I can get at the LC?

Pic related thinking of getting one tonight to try.

A small taste of mead is nice but I don't know how people can sit around drinking it, it's literally like gulping down honey

You don't know what you're talking about. There are sweet meads, semi-sweet, dry and anything in between. There are braggots (like the img) which are a combination of malt and honey.

I assure you, a dry mead or braggot has the essence of honey, but asolutely no cloying sweetness at all.

Do you prefer the wine variations or the beer (such as this) variations.

Mead is amazing. Especially when you can get some quality honey. I got some orange blossom honey from a farm in Vernon this summer, made one batch metheglin with a bunch of herbs, and another batch just plain mead, around the 7-8 % range. Much prefer a beery mead to a wine mead if that makes sense.

If you find peach mead at the lcbo, try a bottle, I really liked it. Didn't like the apple too much.

Mead is the only liquor I can definitely say I like. I prefer it served warm.

Currently saving up money to get supplies for brewing my own. Anyone have experience with making it?

IMO start making a 1gal "Joe's Ancient Orange Mead" (google) right now with minimal equipment. You could even just use a fresh gallon water jug and a balloon w/ pinhole for an airlock. Then by the time you have saved up some more cash for bottling equipment and drunk enough beer to have washed empty bottles, your mead will be ready to bottle!

Mead especially benefits from long aging, some people wait years before digging into their mead. As a new brewer, fuck that, but you should at least wait a few months, which is why I say start trying it as soon as you can afford some honey and a jug.
