I like French cuisine. In my amateur opinion, it's like it has Japanese-tier super precise autistic technique and presentation with Italian and Chinese-tier depth of flavor and use of ingredients. Bretty cool and tasty, it's just I don't know anybody who makes the stuff personally, and all the french restaurants here in Manhattan always seem really expensive.

Water, milk/cream, dill, potatoes, carrots, onions, butter, fish, salt, pepper

Boil potatoes, carrots, onions until almost ready, add fish, butter, milk/cream and dill, wait until fish is ready. The pic is with muikku, cba to figure out what they're called in English. With salmon soup you add the fish in and take it off the heat pretty much at the same time. If you cook the fish it will get overcooked after you take it off the heat. I'm not sure how you're supposed to cook muikku, never liked them other than deep fried. The pic looks like they haven't been cooking there for long since they're still so intact. So depending on your fish and how long it needs you gotta figure out when to add them so that the fish and potatoes are ready at the same time. Keep in mind that the fish will keep cooking even after you take it off the heat. Adding milk/cream can somewhat stop that if you do it after the soup is otherwise ready.

It's real simple food, like any traditional Finnish food. However proper fish soup is really tasty. If you don't like milky soups you can just leave it off, whole milk or cream does add heartiness to the soup and I'd recommend for it. Use plenty of butter. Carrots can be replaced with pretty much any veggies that are in season. Or you can use even multiple ones. Takes about 45 minutes to cook.

The Finnanon with the karelian cookbook here.
Here's apparently traditional Karelian way of doing it.
Basically you start with potatoes, then add the onion (and other veggies) and the vendance to the pot, add water and simmer the shit on low heat until the potatoes are done.
Then throw cream and dill in there and adjust seasoning.
Probably bretty gud cause the fish are whole so the stock will have great flavor after simmering the fish for long time.

>These aren't immigrants, they are refugees.

Man you can't make up how delusional some people are.

A refugee is someone directly leaving a catastrophic area, usually war torn. These people all had safe living conditions in Turkey, so literally none of them is a refugee, by definition. And even if we stretch the definition to include people who were in a war torn area previously, it's well documented that something like 50% or more are not people fleeing the Syrian conflict.

The most accurate, precise way to describe these people is "economic migrants."

You're a paragon of totally manipulable, emotional propaganda consumers. Governments and the media would love nothing more than for every person to be like you so they can convince you of anything. Just unbelievable how ignorant someone can be of one of the largest public policy disasters in decades. Just how Merkel and her fascist colleagues want it.

It goes without saying that you are almost certainly clueless as to the social harm it causes to futilely attempt to "integrate" huge numbers of poor, uneducated people into a first-world country. You probably think a sizable proportion of these migrants will become law-abiding, taxpaying citizens who actually benefit the economy etc. Just insanely illogical.

IMHO French cuisine is good but overrated in the US. So many people try to emulate and then embellish it that I feel like it's true identity is lost. It gets conflated with fine dining. Where does one get genuine French cuisine in the US? What about French fast food or French poverty food?

Karelian stew/hot pot. Google has recipes in English once you search with the English name.

It's a traditional meat stew. Carrots not part of most original recipes.

Serve with potatoes and cranberries/lingonberries. 10/10

In it's simplest and probably most traditional form, it's just a stew lamb, beef and pork (I prefer a 2:1:1 ratio) seasoned with salt and pepper cooked on very low heat until the meat is falling apart. Optionally, you can add onions and root vegetables of your choice. I recommend a little celeriac.

Trad way of doing it:
>1 pound of beef
>1 pound of pork
>tough cuts of both btw
>one big ass onion
>2 carrots (optional)
>2 bay leaves
>5 allspice peppers
>water
>salt
Brown the meat however you prefer to do it
Throw all the ingredients to a big ass pot
Just cover with water, salt to taste
Cover with lid (some prefer to not put lid on for more browning and not clear stew though)
Throw in oven at 150 celsius for 4 hours, traditionally it's made overnight in 80-90 degrees celsius
Also depending on the fattiness of the meat you choose you can add extra pork fat in, but then you want to layer the whole thing properly, beef first, then the fat, then pork.
Serve with mashed potatoes and lingonberries

I visited Finland when I was a kid a couple times and something I especially recall was smoked fish, like pic related but I think smaller, like maybe 10x10 cm. They were served on rye bread as I remember.
I love smoked fish of all kinds, and this was some of the most delicious Ive had. The Meat was like light brown and very fatty.

Is this a thing, /fin/isens??

fry thinly sliced reindeer meat in high heat in oil/butter/lard, spice with salt and pepper
Serve on buttery mashed potatoes with some lingonberry jam on the side (the acidity cuts the richness).

It's a very simple dish that relies on the fact that reindeer is a tasty animal.
