I'll cut to the chase- my roommate got his hands on 1 lb of sugar free chocolate and ate it all in one sitting a few hours ago

He is now farting uncontrollably. It doesn't smell bad but the volume is astonishing. This is hilarious of course and with every chuckle he farts more. We are wondering two thing:

What the fuck is in that chocolate that would do this?
Should he go to the hospital?

An artificial sweetener. Possibly aspartame.

>Should he go to the hospital?

Only if he's a dog.

It's an alcohol-based sugar substitute. It is notorious for causing extreme gas, so much so that any of it sold in the US has to have a warning on the package.

Deoxylose-3,2-lysine
>Should he go to the hospital?
Yes, immediately. Deoxylose-3,2-lysine is commonly used as a component in aspartame and other artificial sweeteners as a cheap way of "cutting" some of the more expensive compounds used to make it.

Basically, it robs your body of the lysine amino acid. Without it, your friend will eventually slip into a coma and die, and that is absolutely out of the question.

Dear me. Is everyone in this thread a fucking troglodyte?

OP: it's sorbitol.

Just make sure he stays hydrated and go to A&E/ED/ER if there's stomach pains.
