Non-murican so I tried these for the first time today and wow, these things are disgusting, who eats this stuff and why was there such a hype to bring them back?

I think few people still eat them. It's just a nostalgia thing, back from when prepackaged foods were a new thing.

Bring them back? When did they go away? I haven't bought them in 25 years mind you, but I've seen them at fairs at the deep fry booths.

I don't love them, never craved them, and could be alternately buying a coffee cake if I wanted that store kind of greasy premade cake. I'm pretty sure the Little Debbie and TastyKake versions are assumed to be better...but who buys these? Nostalgic childhood memories sake. Or people who need portioned items individually packaged, for everything from a school lunch, a random coffee treat, maybe even because of the long shelf life. I buy individual things for my hurricane supply, from trail mixes to cheese crackers.

The makers of the twinkie went out of business. It was kind of a big news story for a week. Everyone went nuts and started buying twinkies like crazy.

They sold the brand to some other company, or something like that. So they came back.

I tried them from the import section, I paid $2.65 for a pack of four using a converter. They were really artificial. The sponge tasted bland and the texture of a kitchen sponge and thee "cream" tasted of nothing but chemicals.

I'm glad I tried it so I know what Americans are talking about, it has been on my list ever since I watched Ghostbusters as a child, but it's not something I would get again. I'm sure if I grew up with them I would like them but they don't come close to Mr Kipplings exceedingly good cakes.

Born and raised in America.

Have literally NEVER seen ANYONE eat a Twinkie except myself to try one pack, and myself again to try the newfangled ones after the drama.

There are vending machines at work and they never sold. The guy gave up putting them in there.

I've found twinkies to be disgusting since the first time I ever tried them. I was perhaps 10 years old at the time. I would have to be starving, near death, to eat one today.

>> No.7933308

i think like a year or 2 ago something happened with production of twinkies

luckily Canadian ones werent affected and i had some a few months back and tasted just as good when i had them many many years ago.

cant say anything aboot the usa made ones but from what i hear they are shit now.

hostess still exists, them "disappearing" was literally a publicity stunt, all that happened was majority stockholders shifted from one faceless conglomerate to the next, who then claimed bankruptcy on hostess because they had hundreds of skus no one was buying, at all.

>> No.7933363

People only "like" it because of the nostalgia meme. Nobody actually eats it, they just like the concept of it, since it was shilled in so many popular movies/TV shows/pop songs for multiple generations. That's why normies freaked out when it got cancelled.

keep in mind twinkies were invented in the 1930's so for the time, they didn't have much competition in the packaged junk food space.
