There aren't many, less than a dozen, it's all residential outside of the pier. You'll drive down to the next island south, through Longboat, and so on and so on, or you'll take the bridge back to the mainland Brandenton. Sarasota's Lido Key might be a good hangout for you and St. Armands circle will be your top froufrou dining choices or you head into Sarasota, otherwise it's breakfast diners, ice cream shoppes and seafood choices on your island. Nothing fancy, or that is going to be too big a draw. Go to Publix and eat in? Best sandwich in town at the deli? Or while you're doing some artsy things and museums in Sarasota dine there.

With a week, you could also go to Tampa easily for a night in Ybor City or a walk along St. John's pass.

If you want good eats, just drive to St.Petersburg and go downtown. Lots of restaurants.

it looks like the kind of place that people who order chicken caesar salads and an ice water with lemon go to.

Been loads of times. Just binge on spirits and fruit the whole time. Try fishing and making a campfire on the beach.

Best steak restaurant in the ENTIRE state of Florida is unarguably Bern's Steakhouse, family owned for more than 5 decades with their own ranch and farms. They have half a million wines and counting. It'd be worth a drive to see Dali museum, or Busch Gardens or Ybor City dancing, and combine that with Berns as a special occasion.

The Columbia in Ybor is 100yr old Cuban, and has a location in St. Armands too.
