Do countries other than Australia have sausage sizzle?

Usually run by groups trying to raise money for one reason or another at special events, though they are permanently found outside Bunnings stores, a typical sausage sizzle is comprised of cheap sausages, in a piece of cheap white bread that may or may not have margarine on it, served with either BBQ or tomato sauce and grilled onion if desired.

Usually $2 or a gold coin donation.

Such shit quality ingredients turn into something amazing to grab when you are down at Bunnings picking up some supplies for weekend projects!

>> No.7876919

yeah, the US, canada, most european countries. this is just a hotdog in white bread instead of a hot dog bun, which I'd probably actually prefer, hotdog buns are too thick. you can get those exact ingredients, with the grilled onions and ketchup, in the US.

A sausage sizzle is cooked on a bbq but they're not really the same thing. The idea of a sausage sizzle is to raise funds for something - like an NFP - so the ingredients are all bought en masse, cheap as possible. There is something very specific about disgustingly cheap bread and sausages isn't replicated in your standard barbecue fare.

I ate pic related in Austria. Man that was awesome. It's a sausage inside a baguette. They chop off the tip, drill a hole and just cram the sausage in there. Damn I love that.

I've never heard it called by that name, but it's very common in the US (southern part, anyway--dunno about the north) for sausage links to be grilled and sold with a piece of white bread like that.

It's not a hotdog, and it's not ketchup.

It's a sausage, like one you might cook up in a frying pan, done on a bbq for some extra flavour and char.

The sauce is tomato sauce which, while similar to ketchup, is often much less sweet.

In texas the common fund raiser food would be a sausage in a flour tortilla. Available condiments are mustard and bbq sauce. Referred to as asausage wrap, or a chihuahua.
