I have a friend who's from Iran and every now and then he gets a food parcel containing all sorts of stuff Iranians like. He let me try some of this Kermani Gaz and it's absolutely delicious.

I fucking love Lapis Sagu. I have family in central Jakarta and I buy this stuff as often as I can the few times I come to visit.

Soft, peelable, glutinous rice deliciousness.

Ondeh-Ondeh as well. Glutinous rice balls with pandan flavor, rolled in coconut, and stuffed with liquid palm sugar. Liquid pops out into your mouth erry bite. Best served warm or at room temperature.

They're both really tricky to make at home, but these puppies are way easier. The hardest part is getting the sugar to liquefy properly when you boil the balls.

I love all kinds of foreign candy. It's one of my favorite things about travelling. Whenever I go to another country, I always go out and buy a bag of assorted snacks.

Sort of looks like french nougat, which is fucking delicious.

Keeping on the middle eastern theme, baklava in all its forms is very hard to beat when you crave something really sweet.

Agreed. Baklava, if done well, is 10/10.

I tried making it once when I was 13 and dealing with layering the phyllo and keeping them moist and not having them break when trying to separate them almost made me slit my wrists in frustration. I'm 32 now and the experience was so bad I haven't tried it since.

They turned out pretty fucking decent though and making the fillings and toppings is not as hard as it seems. The construction is the tricky part.

Eh, I have a decent Turkish supermarket nearby, I just buy them there. They make really good Blaklava. Turkish delight, too.

Yeah well that's the reason I never bothered making them again. There's an arabic supermarket where my sister lives and about once every two months I treat myself to 5-6 pieces. It's dirt cheap too and would almost cost more if I made them myself.
