What's the newest or most notable bottle, friends?

Pic related for me, it's rather good, especially for such a young distillery.

Discovered Aberlour a'bunadh batch 55 today. It was really good. I recommend it dude. Strong, but still soft on the palate. Good nose of dark chocolate, sherry.

Really though, what would be the Skol equivalent in whisky? Even Jim Beam isn't that bad.

That's some potent stuff. Does diluting it change the flavor any?

How do I into good whiskey?

My gf's brother got me a bottle of Jameson Caskmates in an effort to improve my shitty college student tastes in alcohol, and I think it's pretty damn good. What is the right way to taste and compare whiskey? And where do I go from here? I'm on a very tight budget for now

I would glide in through the windows like a horny perv hawk and commence to pleasure each of those homely broads simultaneously.

Sorry, doesn't know. Sadly it was at a restaurant, , and i haven't trying diluting it. Maybe i ill buy a bottle and test next time.

I suppose the first thing would be to find a region that you like, and go from there.

Here's a basic list that might serve as a good starting point. They should run in the range of $30-35
>Bourbon
Bulliet/Knob Creek (but not the Smoked Maple, that shits awful)
>Rye
Bulliet
>Irish
Bushmills 10
>Scotch
Glenfiddich/Glenlivet 12

Once you find a style you like, branch out from there.

I'll try that, thanks.

Already had Knob Creek (just the standard one), it was pretty good but pretty rough. It's just not as fun to drink as Jameson.

The thing that holds me back from trying whiskies is that I don't like to drop $30 on something I don't even know if I'll like, just for a taste. I will try to find all of those by the pint, that would be much better.

It's perfectly okay to add a little bit of water or ice to your whisky if you want to cut back the ethanol taste and bring out some of the more subtle flavors. My other recommendation would be to find a good whiskey bar to try a variety at, though the premium on whisky at bars is pretty steep.

yeah, I've found my favorite way to drink the whiskey I have is with ice, I like to watch the way the flavor changes as the ice melts

If I just wanted to get drunk I'd just get cheap shit and drink it with soda. I don't care about the proof, I'm looking for good, new and complex flavors to explore.

Is there American whiskey that doesn't taste like medicine? I drank some Wild Turkey recently and it tasted really bad. I heard it was going to taste sweet.

>> No.7730599

>>7729670
Higher proof means more flavor though.

It's why George Dickel 12 tastes better than Jack Daniels despite being basically an identical product otherwise. (Well, that and the age.)

>> No.7730609

>>7730480
Wild Turkey uses a very high-rye mashbill. Normally this makes for a spicy whiskey (and WT is certainly spicy), but WT is unique because it's also very, very savory. Pickling spices, mustard, and red meat notes are present to a trained palate.

If you want a sweet American whiskey, stick to bourbons, and go for something with wheat in the mashbill; Maker's Mark, Larceny, Old Fitzgerald, Old Weller.

Not about getting drunk, it's about good whisky at a price point under the $30 at which you balked. I tend to make cocktails with whisky(manhattans sazerac derby etc) so I lean towards higher proof. Their flavors fight through the dilution and vermouth, which is why I recommended them, faggot.
