Is it just me or has jerky gotten way more expensive in recent years? I remember that only a few years ago decent jerky wasn't cheap, but it was affordable. Now even crap jerky prices are through the roof.

Beef in general has gotten more expensive.

Jerky is Beef.
Beef is expensive.
Jerky is expensive.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I bought a dehydrator like last year and think it's about time to learn how to use it.

What do they put in commercial jerky that makes it soft and easy to chew?

The homemade jerky I've had was always tough and I'd have to practically fight the damn thing with my mouth.

Beef is cheaper than it has been. Now is the time to make homemade jerky. You can customize the marinade to your preferences and enjoy jerky flavors no-one else will understand.

>Recipes all say to dehydrate for at least 4 hours
>My jerky looks mummified by the 2nd hour
What am I doing wrong.

That's the point of it. It lasts a long time because it takes ages to chew the fucking stuff. It's a substitute for chewing tobacco that doesn't rot your jaw.

Any marinade recipes u recommend for homemade jerky?

>> No.7605240

>>7605177
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup water
2 tbsp honey/sugar
2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp onion/garlic powder

Mix with sliced meat, marinate overnight, dry for 4+ hours.

Results range from ok to above ok. I'm just too lazy to alter my parent's recipe.
