How to get over a food avoidance?

I can't eat avocado. I had this knockoff Chipotle on my uni's campus a year ago and got guacamole on it. I ate it and splattered my floor and part of the wall in verdant vomit like five minutes later and can't stomach the sight/smell of guacamole now. I can handle plain avocado but still avoid eating it because even a little bit of it makes me queasy.

Try to work up from eating 1cm^2 bits of the offending food. The method works for toddlers and children of all ages who have strong dislikes.

But if the experience was so bad it's hard to avoid

I used to love this one really shitty vodka probably because my taste buds were complete ash one year

Then I got really hungover from it one time and just imagining the taste of it still makes me shudder

I imagine if you have little bits of it over time you'll get back to liking it
