I've made pretty tasty chili sauce with a ketchup base, but I want to reduce the sugars by making my own ketchup.

Do you guys have any recipes that are sugar-low or free that actually taste good? I see a lot of blog talking about how great their recipes are but I think it's more about being glad it's healthier then better tasting.

Is using canned pureed tomatoes a big no-no?

I make a ketchup like thing with passata tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, salt and spices.

just boil it 'till it's thick enough and wala.

I prefer it to the store bought one, although I prefer anything I do to the storebought stuff so I might just be a cunt

I tried to make it with sifted tomatoes once but no amount of spices could make it taste less then sifted tomatoes, would passata be better?

If you do not want to make it straight from tomatoes, what you need to use is Tomato PASTE. Sugar up some tomato paste with some small amounts of vinegar and salt, cook it while stirring constantly for a smooth finish, and you have yourself a decent ketchup.

Joke was there isn't really a big difference, but most of the joke was part of the delivery.
