If you are into IPA make sure to try Karben 4 Fantasy Factory, New Glarus Scream IIPA, Ale Asylum Bedlam (belgian yeast IPA), also not made in Wisconsin but definitely look for Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue

Best barrel aged beers are from Central Waters, any of their BA 4 pack releases are amazing, Lakefront's barrel aged barleywine is amazing too but not released often.

Favorite year round stout is 3 Sheeps Cashmere Hammer, but otherwise Tyranena probably does the best stouts, especially their 4 pack special release stouts

New Glarus makes amazing sours, especially fruit ones. Their brewery only limited release stuff over the summer is always worth the trip

Small brewery to keep an eye open for is Black Husky, their stuff is excellent but only sell in 22oz bottles and tap

Best tour is Lakefront in Milwaukee

Also, do your first beer shopping when you get here at Woodmans

>> No.7516786

>>7516582
Oh my God Woodman's is fucking amazing. One opened up last year and I haven't gone beer shopping anywhere else since. The selection is amazing, everything is relatively cheap, and they give so much stuff away. The rest of the store is pretty good too, but oh my God the liquor section.

most grocery stores do mixed 6 packs. Just pick 6 random beers from local breweries of different styles, then explore whatever styles you like the most further (though don't give up on a style from one bad beer). Once you have some styles down pick up some more expensive 4 packs or 22oz bottles of the style as most of the best beers will not be sold in 6 pack or as an option in a mixed 6 pack

Its way more expensive to learn what you like trying them at bars

while I was visiting San Diego on my spring break last weekend I hit up a few of the small local breweries.

pic related is Booze Brothers up in north county. Maybe there's an overabundance of facial hair at these places but if you can look past the hipsters the beer culture there is really second to none. Tons of great small craft breweries scattered around, each with a unique feel and beer selection. Going to be hard to go back to Georgia where you can't even buy beer from a brewery without it being a "free gift" part of a "special tour"

I live in NY but near the border of CT. So I am in the New England area a lot, and occasionally Pennsylvania. I also live around a lot of wealthy areas and am really close to NYC, so basically I live in one of the best (and most expensive) places for US craft beer.

About Dogfish Head, if you like 60 or 90 minute try and get some Squall, it is their best IPA hands down.

Maine is honestly sort of boring to me. They make a small but super solid lineup of beers. I feel they are overrated and a bit boring , but I respect and appreciate what they do.

Drinking this right now. My sister brought a case of this and two other beers from the home state to Commiefornia. Really tasty stuff, on par with the hoppier IPAs and pale ales out here.

As for in my fridge...

-Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower
-Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout
-Barley Forge Future Tripping

Dude what. He's saying it's over a year aged, not that there's an issue in canning. Pretty much everyone who is into craft beer knows that canning is superior. It's not always available because bottling machines are so available and canning aren't, but it's always better for the beer.

I actually distribute Weyerbacher in my state, and I sold the two cases I sent to a liquor store in something like 6 minutes doing one bottle per person. It's been out over a month for sure. If you're into trading at all, it's pretty much the hottest thing on the West Coast because it doesn't get distributed there. I'd buy every single bottle if I was you and taste any Whale you want from California. Or just drink it in its own right and have a nice time.

I'll look for the Squall next time I make a run.

Maine's okay, like I said. Solid, but not exciting.

The more nearby breweries I tend to prefer are Brooklyn, Ommegang, and Allagash (I guess Maine is near...?). Charter Oak is a new one that's got a few okay beers and New England Brewing Co. puts out a few good ones.

In short: no.

There's a goofy three tier system in beer in America left over from prohibition. A brewery has to sell their beer to a distributor who then sells it to a retail outlet (bar, liquor store, whatever) who can then sell to a consumer.

North coast will probably tell you where you can buy their kegs, or at least give you the info for their distributor in your market who can.

This. These are generally easy to find stouts/porters, and good quality.

Yeti by Great Divide is also somewhat common, and quite good. Bells puts out some good beers too, like their Double Cream and Expedition stouts.

Once you get into the thick of em, you should start branching out into the weirder things, like Evil Twin stouts, or Brooklyn ones - any bomber or 750ml ones, or countless others, depending on where you are.

It's safe to drink, don't worry. Lactid acid bacteria causes that sour taste. Some ales use it on purpose. Old fashioned beer used to taste like that because they didn't sterilize anything.
